Yes I know the game itself is crap but it is a step in the right direction, especially when its EA doing it.

I may even buy the bloody thing to support it.

I don't think they could possibly save face sticking with their rediculous DRM system for another major title... not when Spore was estimated as one of the most pirated games of the year. Software publishers need to realise that anything they write in software, someone can write around it. So instead of spending millions on more complex software protection routines, cut that out the budget, and pass on the savings. I'm sure they'd see sales grow a lot more.
