No, this is no April fools joke, the first Hurling tournaments took place on the French servers last night. More tournaments should appear on the English servers in the coming days so check your server news regularly if you are interested ! Hurling, like its name doesn't suggest, is a noble sport opposing two teams of Hurlers on a carefully delimited ground. The aim of the game is to delicately push the pig (usually with the help of a flimsy spear) into the scoring zone of the opposing team.
It should be known that the origins of this sport remain shrouded in mystery and many races have their own version of the game which they all of course affirm is the original one. The rules slowly became standardised under the reign of King Arthur (another example of the magnificent work done by the Great King's teams), and it was not uncommon to see matches between two opposing families, two groups of friends or even two whole villages !
War unfortunately put an end to all that. The game became a simple memory next to the torment and affliction faced by each realm. The playing grounds became overgrown, the sticks reinforced with good metal to hunt down marauders and highway men.
Then, little by little, the authorities realised that the moral of the local population would play an active part in determining victory or defeat in the ongoing war. Whatever the cause, one of the three realms decided to bring Hurling back to the people, and the enemy intelligence services quickly latched on to the idea too. It is hard to say which realm was the first one but whatever, games have started once again.
Leaving behind the roleplay, we have placed a small event on the servers about Hurling, an event that we will no doubt play again in the future, and we are in fact considering scripting the whole event so that it is entirely automated and can be started by the players without any external assistance. This unfortunately will take some time to implement so keep checking the news sections.
sounds like a nice distraction
