Hunters = Gimps?

I read a bit abourt the hunter and thought: " wow sounds like fun". But then again they go down very easy against the enemy tanks.
I´d like to roll a stealther class, who has a ranged weapon, so I guess this is the one. Or are they simply too gimped?
Would I need a buffbot for RvR to stand a chance solo?

Well yes, compared to the other archers we are gimps.

On the other side I've had an awesome fight with an armsman (5 rr's higher than me I think) wich I nearly won. Well, he prolly still had IP ready but I got him down to ~10% and I think thats impressive without ANY buffs.

Hehe... ok, I admit he took falling damage by jumping from the battlements of a mile gate. :p

Don't forget he was sitting... naked... afk for the first 90% of the fight... had the wrong qb up... and had a mega graphics bug ;)

Still, sounds impressive for a hunter.

If you like the class, roll it. Classes get tweaked, but if you roll something that you dont like 100%, it'll bore very quickly.

With the right RA's u can solo very well with the hunter.... even without being buffed (tho it helps a lot i u wanna take on more than 1 enemy at a time, which u're prolly gonna end up doing, ppl being bait for other stealthers etc)

But the class itself is not gimped. And even quite nice with a bot if u play it well

NO CLASSES ARE GIMPED IT'S THE PPL PLAYING :)

Agreed with Divine, Ive never found another archer class who could kill a decent hunter solo, (apart from ofc having superior RA's)
We do suffer from our spear being evaded/blocked lots but we have many other advantages, just takes a bit of time and skill also with SH nerf hunters will be alot more effective

I had a successful run tonight in sauvage solo before I logged...I was unbuffed. I did the same yesterday. I was unbuffed. Mercs, buffedinfils, mincers, 2 duo players armsman and cleric, casters, etc...just never ever pallys or armsmen with shields. Hunters are a really fun class. We don't have enough of them in midgard. Make one, you won't regret it. We can and will take down a few of the other classes...even the many of the ones we shudn't.

PS. I'm still logged in Sauvage...just staying out of Shaeffers way.

hunters are a fun class, but you need to decide what you want to use your toon for in RvR before you start.

my hunter is siege specced, low stealth, max bow, volley/longshot.

some hunters go for a solo spec, max spear, high bow, high stealth, IP/Purge/True Sight.

i enjoy my hunter, and i think my group likes him in keep defences, you roll in RP's from volley, and it will just get better after 1.62 ;)

and :p @ spug and loogs

Hah! I nearly got you too! If it wasnt for your silly tank friend who blocked the lethal strike! Slam, pb-crit didnt work well with a dmg shield up did it? :p

Nope, he was S/S. Ofcourse I had to exploit DAoCs lack of collision detection by running through him and using face to avoid getting blocked parried.

Hunter must be hard to play. Armed ranged attacks, Melee, Pet, Stealth. How do you act to get the best out of it in RvR?

Sure has a little more spice than a Thane. But wich class has not? :p Beside that Thanes are rouges in chain... hitpoint table wise.

Well, I dont have a tank/hybrid. Only played a skald once during a relic raid. I cant really compare the playstyle of a stealther and a "true melee" class but I think the game is slower for stealthers. Consists of more waiting and carefully considering your odds. I guess as a "tank" you just charge and hope your seers keep you alive.

i have played a hunter a few times and be wary of one thing... in rvr infils/ns's will pretty much be able to PA you before u see them, unless u TS (which u dont have all time) but the see hidden clip range is reduced next patch so it is harder for them to see you if you have high ish stealth.

Wish you goodluck with the hunter...we do need more of em i think

I see assassins when they get that close to me. Some try to pa/backstab and mostly fail bcz I turn or run throu them. I usaly survive those. Some dont bother with pa/backstab and rely on their stun styles. I usaly die to them. :(

Often it's the opposite..

I know this is a Hunter thread but as a Thane I can't help my self to say a few words about it :)

I stay close to my guarded friend who has no intention of going melee. There I do some DDs (realizing that they do not much dmg :) but I stay anyways). After the first moments of battle I have some melee to do (slamming and stuff). Later some DDs on the cowards left if I have any pow.

I like my mend/aug shammy better in fights.. but he's just another screwed kobold not worth trusting

Its not the class its who and how you play them like Divine said.
Hunters do fine if you play them with your brains and not your balls (which can be hard not to when you get some nice buffs).
