Hi all, I am starting up a hunter and would appreciate any help / pointers you can give me on speccing the character, also any help in getting started ingame would help - crafters prepared to help out to start with etc. etc.

I have already rolled charcter as norse - I know this is not the ideal choice, but it is the one that appeals to me most.

Many thanks.

Aye.. if u are gonna be a stealther be a shadowblade.. Hunters are the most gimped class in the game.. :(

Kedela is right..

Hunters arent wanted in xp groups, and they are the bottom of the food chain in RvR.

If you want high ranged damage make a runemaster, if you want high ranged damage and a pet make a spiritmaster. If you want ot be able to run around alone in RvR, make a skald.

Nah, I fancy a change and already have a lvl 50 inf on excalibur. so being bottom of the food chain ain't a problem - but not running character as a stealther primarily - as I say, already have that..

If you have a infil, why not roll something that infils own?

For instance: Runie, SM, Hunter?, Shaman, or... THANE :)
In any case, runie is a good choice, always a fun char to play. Dont even hover over thane, you might explode.

Well we all know that Ardrias doesn't like hunters :)

But having got a hunter to 50 which took a long time I admit, but i believe i got more out of it and more satisfaction that someone who pl'd to 50 in 12 days.

I like my hunter now we have camo I have more of a chance against infils combeined with my true sight.

And what the hell every class is gimped in some way, even the mighty infil can't own everything.

As for hunter specs, I would keep bow to lvl BC and spear to 2/3 bow as far as you can.

And its not really worth putting anything in stealth till lvl 20.

My final spec at 50 is

Stealth 27 BeastCraft 36 Spear 44 Bow 43

Its nice to be able to do decent dmg with a spear as well as a bow i think.

Yeah ok so hunters weren't the power house Uber snipers they once were. But they are still fun and grouping with another hunter or 2 and all crit shooting at the same time from assist can be devastating.

As to the advice 'reroll a SB' ffs how many more SB do we need. Lets have some diversity in the game rather than a realm/server of assassins that can never find each other.

As i always said there is no bad class in DAOC just bad players.

I'd recommend:
Bow 44
Spear 44
Stealth 30
Beastcraft 32 (there are no good charmable insects in the frontiers anyway)

Blood's spec is good. My spec is:

Bow 37
Spear 39
BC 43
Stealth: 32

I like this spec very much since I find that its when I solo things matter the most and then I usually don't get buffs and the extra from the high bc comes in handy. It's all a matter of preference. If you don't like pets at all you could go with the "buff bot-template" (however, I couldn't live without them):

bow 50
spear 50
bc 6
stealth 28

I'm planning on something like this;

33 Stealth
35 BC
39 Bow
44 Spear

I May tweak the bow and stealth values though, for slightly higher bow.

My specc having no bufbot looks like this:

Stealth 31
BC 35
Bow 41
Spear 44

Heard that more insects are added in some future patches to RvR zones and I wanted at least 2nd best speedbuf.

Also each point in bow raise my damage cap with 3 dmg. So speccing it to 50 isn't worth the extra 5XX skill points it will cost you for slightly higher damage cap and weapon skill (on bow).
Unless you have a bufbot and dont want the BC line of course.

My kobbie hunter has:
stealth 29
spear 39
BC 43
bow 40

it works ok for me (although i dont have 1mil+ RP like svartur ((yet =) )). although I havent respecced yet and im thinking about reducing bow a wee bit. got well over 50 with bonuses anyway

Right now I have this template:

Bow 50
Spear 50
Stealth 28
BC 6

(Since i have a shaman that can always buff me, it's viable.)

I'll respec to Blood's suggestion when 1.56 arrives:

Bow 44
Spear 44
Stealth 30
BC 32 (For the best summondable wolf)

:)

My spec (based on Svarturs)

35 bc - lvl34 speed spell, and that last insect charm might be usable in the future.
35 stealth
44 spear
37 bow

pr. point in bow above 50, i gain approximately 1% weaponskill (+12), now thats not alot, but consider that the hunter spear is bumped 6% in the next patch, and thats considered a fairly big upgrade.

Remember when your weaponskill goes up, not only does your average damage go up 1%, but your chance to hit/miss/block/evade also improves. Imo its fair to assume that +6 bow above 50 = 10% more damage.

Yep totally correct information, as proved by the statistics here.
http://www.duskwave.com/daoc/classes.php

Because a class isn't at the bottom on the total RPs gained by all classes and alla characters over a long time doesn't mean he's not at the end of the food chain, does it? Get a grip.

Just look at the thane, 4th place and a gimped class. Get a clue.

Maybe they're 4th because they aren't gimped at all.... Thanes are an excellent class, many good players use thanes, for example those I've met and talked to would be Kephan, Max, Blejs and Solid(TPT) all seem to use this 'gimped' class to great effect... maybe it's the player and not always the class that is gimped?

Hunters are also a good class, just because now they cannot kill everything ever on sight whenever they feel like with little challenge does not mean they are gimps.... There are a lot of good hunters out there also that manage to get by. Also they get a boost in melee damage at the same time as assassins get nerfed in a few months so now would probably be the perfect time to start a hunter (or come out of retirement in some cases).

Check my class in those statistics! :p nerf mentalists!

lol we get to charm 80% of our lvl so a lvl 41 mob is as high as a hunter goes.

Bloodletters .. mmm ... if only
