Hub n' Pings

One for the networking bods :

I have my cable modem (NTL) setup via a hub as I plan to add more 'puters to the network (that will result in seperate questions later :)).

My question is - will this the hub increase my ping at all? If so how much?

Its fairly resonable atm (about 35-40ms to BW) but I am wondering if I can lower it any more.

No not really, my router gave me no more ping.

To reduce the number of questions later, you'll be plugging the cable modem into a router "internet" port and a hub or switch into its "local" port to allow multiple machines. Some router models have integrated switch ports so you don't need a separate box. At most, you'll add about 1 ms because of the router.

OK - I think I understand. I set both machines to pick an IP automatically?

1ms - not worth fiddling with the cables over
