I have just read the thread Modemers and ISDNers, nice thread and very civilised. I just have one question.

Why are people referred to as HPB? Are you all insane or am I the one needing locking up?

So far as I'm concerned it is LPB and HPW standing for Low Ping Bastard and High Ping Whinger. I know that I am getting old but things haven't changed that much.

Oh yeah and one last thing, is there anyone out there that remembers me from Q2 days especially on BW lithium servers??

LPB was coined first (back in 1996), and HPB was derived from it. Back then, LPBs were few and far between (mostly because of ISDN's then extortionate cost) so HPB was a rarely used term anyway (certainly not often enough to warrent a more original term).

I think HPW was coined when HomeHighway caused a surge in LPB connections.

afaik hpb=high bing bracket
also lpb cans stand for low ping bracket
the term hpw was definatly around before home highway (it was used in quakespy i believe)

ISTM that HPW has certainly become more popular in recent times (though recent times is relative term)..
