Find out what type of memory is compatible with a certain PC/motherboard?

My Mother has told someone who works for her that I'd be able to upgrade the memory on it, and find out what she needs etc. Unfortunately I haven't a fucking clue how to find out, and all I've got is a wad of manuals for this PC.

TIA

Crucial has a little section which works it out from the motherboard make and model.

I was just about to suggest that... short of that you can always look on the manufacturer's web site... it should tell you there!

Hmm, crucial doesn't list this mobo and I can't find any English pages on Daewoo PC's so I'll ask here:

The manual says the motherboard has two standard 168-pin DIMM sockets with memory size up to 256mb support EDO and Synchronous DRAM memory.

From that, all I understand is that it can take two sticks of 256mb memory, but I don't know what type - can anyone help me?

The PC is an ancient (1998) Daewoo one. No idea of the specs or anything, I've just got two Daewoo manuals.

I would Hazard aguess and say PC66. Maybe even PC100 RAM would work. If it is the older memory then you maybe have problems gettign hold of it. Does the motherboard manuals indicate whether the BIOS can be upgraded ? You may be able to upgrade the BIOS and the board could take PC100/PC133 Memory

Will, it doesn't say what model it is.

I just had a look at the manual again and there is a section on upgrading the memory.

This system supports 2 sockets of 64bit DIMM with 168 pins. This system can be used with maximum of 256mb memory.

OK, so it would now seem it only supports two sticks of 128mb ram, totalling upto 256mb. So would 64bit DIMM be PC66 or what? I can't see anything about being able to flash the BIOS, but I'll look.

Flashing the BIOS is a red herring. Its either 66 or 100, I'd look in the BIOS screens and see what the current memory is running at.

I can't, I don't have the PC in front of me. In fact, I don't really know whose PC it is other than someone who works for my Mum who I've met a couple of times.

Ok, my advice is to play stupid and say I don't know.
