Is there an idiot free and easy way to isolate a colour object in a photo and make the rest of the photo black and white / grey scale. ?
I dont dout for one second that photoshop and gimp can do it, but tbh I lack the skillz! and well, i dont even have photoshop :/

an example would be a kid holding a red ball. Keep the ball red, make rest of the photo grey scale.

anywhoo,
Halp is much appreciated.

Photoshop would be the easiest way to do this.

Colour isolation like this, in my opinion, looks very tasteless; I've never understood why people do it.

Fair enough; maybe a Photoshop punter here could do it for you. I would volunteer, but I really won't get a chance to do it until after the weekend.

Use the magnetic lasoo tool, trace round the object.

Invert the selection and desaturate. You may want to increase the saturation and colour levels/balancing on the object too.
