How to use charges on a staff (Mentalist)

I'm a mentalist and have a mana malison staff of DF.

1. How do I use charges on this staff ? (I tried some things, like pulling it into my quick bar, etc... but this doesn't work)

2. I suppose that, once I can use charges, I have to recharge them. How, where and at what cost can this be done ?

3. Is there any comparison between spells and charge damage ? (is one better than the other ?)

4. If I can use charges, does it take time to use them or is it an insta-use ?

5. As a spell crafter (630) I could imbue a crafted staff. Which staff is the best for a mana ment ? A DF diamond seals bought staff or a high level crafted and high level SC staff ?

Where can I find all this information ?

Config you're keyboard settings and check what you have as "use-button", put the staff in q-bar, hold teh use button while pressing the staff in q-bar. Then you will insta blast you're target, or DOT or whatever charge it is on it :D

In one of th houses in TNN near ent, it is a recharger, it is pretty expencive though :p

Crafted is much better than DF once. You can get the exact stats you want. like 50 mana focus 50 light focus, 28 int, 11% slash resist....or something like that.

Drag to quickbar indeed. When you wanna use the charge press the E button (and hold it) and then click your icon on the quickbar. Say E+9 if you have the staff dropped to position 9 on the QB.

2. I suppose that, once I can use charges, I have to recharge them. How, where and at what cost can this be done ?

Costs depends on the charge level: A full recharge of my lvl 50 charges on a staff costed 54g (around 11g / charge was that) but lower charges (like the DF one) are cheaper.

You can do a recharge at the recharger. There is one in TNN and I think an alchemist can recharge dropped-staffs with charges as well. Don't know that for sure, but they can recharge their own made charges.

3. Is there any comparison between spells and charge damage ? (is one better than the other ?)

All depends on resists and level of the charge and it stated DD. I used a charge with DD331 and it hit in RvR for around 300 (not that great; my spells do the same while they are DD209).

4. If I can use charges, does it take time to use them or is it an insta-use ?

When you examine a charge it also states 'casting-time' which is mostly 'instant' so you can get it off even while someone is pounding you. Check the staff (rightclick staff, press Information-button, think Shift-I by default) to find out for sure.

5. As a spell crafter (630) I could imbue a crafted staff. Which staff is the best for a mana ment ? A DF diamond seals bought staff or a high level crafted and high level SC staff ?

The latter is better because you can change it needs to your own. DF diamond-seals are always 'single-focus' while some people prefer multi-focus staffs. You can do that with SC. Furthermore you can put more and different stats on a SC'ed staff. 50 focus requires a substantial higher SC-level then your 630. Find a 1000+ SC'er to do the focus for ya. And an alchemist can set a charge on it for ya.

Where can I find all this information ?

In my answer I think.

Thanks for these quick replies, I appreciate your help and I'm sure gonna try this.

But when reading these answers, I got the following question:
Why would you pay for damage charges, if you have them for free in your spell list ?
Of course I can imagine two good reasons:
1. OOP
2. acts as a quick cast (apparently)

Any other reason ?
