how to set up my computer as a server so me and friend can play over internet

how do u set up your own computer so you can host a game and play game as well over internet so your friend can join game so its just you to playing. please help

hi m8 , its on the q3 multiplayer menu."create" i think its called.obviously ur m8 will need ur ip adress.u can get this by going to start>find folder>type winpcfg then get it from there.hope this helps!

To find your IP address:

Try: winipcfg I don't use it, but I think it should work.
or try opening a 'dos' dox and typing ping <yourmachinename>

if it comes back with 128.0.0.1 that's not very helpful .. (it's the 'loopback' address of your machine) but if comes back with something looking a bit more random, then that's your IP address.

once you've got your IP address .. give it to your mate, start up the server and away you go!

Maybe Barrys could provide a simple .asp page to give you your apparent IP address? I've got a .cgi one somewhere .. usually only a few lines of code and very helpful for people not totally happy with messing with these type of things.

Another way to look for an IP: doing a /whois in IRC .. although bouncers and things rather screw this up.

Go-to start/run then type winipcfg, as long as u are connected the internet you will get your ip address.

And as long as you stay connected the ip will be the same, if you disconnect you will have to get your ip address again.

that will definetly get your ip address if you can't get it any other way.

once you have given your ipaddress to your mates - I suggest by e-mail because if you disconnect you may get a different ip address.
Open quake3
Click create
once that's done - you'll have to wait for your mate to join your game.
He does that by specifing the ip-address you gave him earlier in the multiplayer/specify option.
