How to defend a keep

I'm not very experienced at defending but the most time I have done it all Mids have been standing inside it And we have always lost the keep.

Yesterday was the first time I saw that we won. But then we were standing outside the keep and was fighting together with the guards.

To me it seems like standing outside and defending is the better option but then again I'm not very experienced at defending so I want to hear someone elses wiew of it.

It depends on the numbers you're defending with. If you're greatly outnumbered, staying outside will get you finished off quickly, while you can still stall them from the inside, while calling in reinforcements.

If the numbers are roughly even, staying outside is most logical, at least for melee types of course. Hunters and casters can do their thing from the walls if need be.
