How does this happen??

When playing last night, I witnessed on 3 occasions when the server switched to a new map, ( and everyone is supposed to start out with $800, essentaially a pistol round) the opposing T's had not only grenades( which they could buy) but they had sig commando rifles already. I am assuming this was a cheat of some sort that enabled these players to have a full bank account at the begining of the game. Can anyone confirm/deny or at least offer an explanation for this??

SO I'm new.

O.K. so I'm a new to CS. so what. I am trying to learn more about what I see going on. We were all newbies at one time or another. Could you explain what I saw?

The other players have faster conections and computers so got into the new map and finshed a round before you joined.
So they had enough money to buy those guns.

What happened is that they entered the server before yourself and got through a quick round before you arrived. The used the cash to buy high-powered assault rifles to kick your ass.
You'll have to get a cable modem.

O.K. I find that surprising. My machine is plenty fast. ( PIII 733, 256MB Ram, 64MG Prophet 4500 video card) but I am surprised taht they same people playing Map "A" who then are rotated to map "B" are done so on such an unequal basis. Yes I did get my ass kicked. 4 on 1 no less my pistol vs automatic rifles I had no chance. I seriously doubt I will be gettign a cable modem, they charge too much for them in my area and I only play one or twice a week anyway.

Blades,

You need to forgive Ono - he gets grumpy without enough caffeine

Thank god - you didnt get Perplex on a bad day.

Anyway, the story goes like this:

You start the round, expecting it to be a pistol round - except there are somepeople running about with rifles/smgs.

Simple answer is - it isnt the first round of the map. some people (specially lpbs) can enter a map VERY quickly after a map change. If there is a long enough delay between players, the server announces a "win" to a team and a new map is started - this is probably where you enter the map. Hence the people who arrived "early" have enough money to be larger weapons.

It all evens out in the wash.

A friend to everyone heh Ono?

Anyway yeah conn speed and cpu speed means maps laod faster for some than others.

Since I have had cable I have always been the first player on the map, many a times have i won the round by simple waiting for others to join.

More fun however is going to the enemy spawn and knifing players as they appear.

Saying all that i do think there is a cheat that give you full money. With a ping of sub 20 *showoff* and a powerful computer you expect to load up first! But i have played, (what i am sure has to be the first round) against ppl with sigs or colts, not always possible even to get in the second round. There is a money cheat out there, i am sure of that.... has to be quite an easy one to make.

I think as everyone else had said, in your case it is just the slow connection. I have been able to, a few times, go 3 rounds before someone else loads. Get yourself a free lan. Live in uni halls :)

its sort of a bug, if 2 or 3 people get onto the map quickly, and they all join cts, wivout any of them joining ts it will give the first round to cts, but it wont show the cts as being 1 round up, but it will give them the winning money, its been around for ages, cs team should have sorted it but they are naff :\

One thing I have seen on some servers (cant remember what one) - the first "delay" (allows you to buy weapons etc) is excessively long.

This allows more folk to join before the game starts for real. Means you dont get inequality at the first game.

Cable modems are excellent. £25/month, tiny ping, no ping spikes, and you can download mp3's fster than you can play them. And that Red Faction demo isn't downloadable until you go broadband (128MB)

This so called "cheat" has been with us for goodness knows how long now and it just annoys me that people start bitching when I shoot them with the gun I got for connecting faster (I have ADSL).

Apologies to wossisname for the ***Warning*** thing, but to be honest I thought everyone knew about the bug in the game.

Here in Milwaukee they(cable modems) are a bit more expensive for whatever reason. Not completely outragious, about $60 month. I however have my first child on the way and can't really justify the $60 month when I have bigger things to worry about.

Ono~ No offense taken. I just didn't realize that Round 1 wasn't always "round 1 for everyone.

Mr_powers there is no money cheat.

Its simple poor ISP, and poorly configured cs. I beat most other lpb's to the first round, I have seen ISDN players beat adsl players into a server by a round.

Ch3tan, how the hell do you know so much about...... well so much? :)

It is really handy loading up and getting a round or 2 in before any one else loads. When the first 'proper' round loads up, with a decent rifle in your hand and deagle by your side you are then able to take out near enough the whole team. By the third 'proper' round you're already got about 10 frags (plus) on the score board.

I think i have a nice screenie of me kicking some of [CS-B] :p Is there a oldman in that clan? Or used to be

CS is biased towards HPBs :/

(and good players)

When are the CS team going to do something about that? It's getting a bit ridiculous now.

I don't understand that last post. How are the CS team going to prevent people from becoming good? Anyway, why should the better players out there be punished becasue they know what they are doing??

As for the the hpb bias thing. I expect that there have been hundreds of post about this subject already but i will still put my little say in. Lpb's are going to come out top every time! Since i have become a 'good' player i hardly see any hpb above me.... but then again i hardly see anyone above me :p. The so called netcode might give hpbs a chance..... but at the end of the day ping does matter. A decent player with a high ping is always going to come out on top, even if there are decent hpb players on the server.

I think what we should do is make a trans-national LAN just for counterstrike. I can start off the project with a 50p donation. Any more donations please contact iambored@bored.com

I allways get in the map first the hunted server, or any tfc server for that matter. 9 times out of 10 i would get in first even on isdn, now im on cable im never beaten. Whats realy cool is if you first in you get the best sniping point on the hunted map;), i never have to be a bg unless i want ect...

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. It was actually a subliminal reference to the fact that I'm shite at CS.

It's not just about being an LPB and having a fast processor that determines when yuo join the map - one of the most important things is how fast your comp loads the map into memory so fast hard drives make a big difference.

I have half-life/cs installed on a 10,000rpm SCSI drive and I used to be one of the first few to join a map even when I was on ISDN - now I'm on cable modem it's *very* rare that anyone beats me to the map :)

I had one guy last night who beat me to the map but also just after I chose my class he had our flag??
God knows what computer he must have had. He was a scout but even so I am usually the first to most maps.
