well you did ask. Personally I think that unless he makes a really serious cock-up like telling somebody that Britain's adopting the dollar or something, Labour will keep him. The only reason is so that whenever something bad happens they can just shrug and point at Byers.

I dunno. I kinda agree with Blair that his initial ideas have been quite inspirational. It's just a great shame that he has now demostrated that having been the peoples hero by snathing Railtrack from the corperate evils, he has absolutely no idea what to do with it.
t's like a three year old with a mechano set... what are you meant to do except prod it?

... now there is an idea for the PhotoShop loving masses...

Well, I've worked out how to make € signs on the computer now, so I guess I'm ready...

I don't have a lot of time for the "culture" debate regarding currency, cause onc apon a time we used Shillings and other things, it's not much different. If you want to blame someone for killing our culture, go protest outside Tesco.

I generally like the idea, but being a (cuntish) politics student I'm looking at implications as usual. Mainly, I have no problem with big Europe, so long as we know we will get a shout whenever we need it. Having a fooking unelected European commission goes totally against that. If our fate is still in our direct voting hands then lets go, but it isn't, so I'd vote no on principal until something is done about the EU structure.

.. right, there's my Politics exam revision for today :)

Europe sucks arse. Unelected and unnacountable pricks on power trips thats all they are. Neil fucking Kinnock failed spectacularly to get elected as PM in Britain and guess what, he got a job telling us what to do from an office in Brussells.

Fuck that. When they're not trying to invade us, Europe still feels the need to bring us to heel and tell us what to do.

hehe - vitriolic stuff :)

generally i agree though. the eu commisson seems incredibly remote and detached from real citizens concerns. as is being shown in many elections across europe. the protest vote is kicking in even if they do seem to be doing it by voting for nasty tosspots.

/edit: Just noticed this bit...

Liberal Democrat foreign affairs spokesman Menzies Campbell said: "It would be a delicious irony if Mr Byers were finally to lose his job on account of his truthfulness rather than for having misled the House of Commons."

teh funneh

The Right Wing protest votes have been little to do with EU protest, though should a Euro referendum be announced I intend to do what I can to publicise my above point of view, cause I like the benefits of single currentcy really, just not attached to the current EU set up.

The far right stuff has, in my opinion, been spurred by the inability of mainstream parties to deal with immigration. They are all too scared to openly talk about it for fear of being 'politically incorrect' or for the automatic lambasting from the media and the opposition. The far right don't give a shit about that so people find themselves identifiable with their openness, rather than their racism.

Actually a majority of EU law is legislated by elected officials, true there are the unelected, but they are appointed by the elected ones.

That is no different to what happens in this country, many policy decisions are taken by "quangos" (actually first set up by Thatcher), most are unelected and have far less accountability than their EU equivilents.

And lets not discuss the UK Upper House "government" when talking about unaccountability :)

I actually vaguely remember the last currency change, I remember paying for my school dinners in big pennies, way back then, one currency change has already happened in my lifetime, I see no reason for it to happen again, especially if it means the end of "rip off Britain".

People forget that the far right actually want us to join NAFTA, with the Americans. Lambasting the left for wanting a closer EU is quite ironic, it has nothing to do with sovereignty just who you want to give it away to.

though the european pm are electeble, they do not have the respect for their voters. I can point out to you their disrepectfull attitude on the friday leaving after 4 minutes and getting paid for the whole day. Yes I know a lot of people would do the same but they dont have a representble function.

also you don't want euros coz they are tin money! have you used them!? cheap tin crap it is! ;)

seriously though I'm not too enthusiastic because I haven't been given a good reason to want to have a single currency beyond "Going on holiday would be easier" or "it's good for rich people(sorry I mean businesses)"

all I seem to hear is that if I say I don't want to go for the euro that I'm racist and/or jingoistic, which I resent.

ps as an added comment, I HATE tabloid newspapers and wouldn't mind killing piers morgan the smug twat!

I think the coins are OK. I don't like the notes cause they are completely identityless. There are no "European Heroes" or anything like that. Probably cause they are all British... :p

(No, I know not really.. what about Napolean after all.. and Hitler... oh shit)

It's difficult to avoid the "free pron" nowdays. Prostitution is not in fact illegal in the UK. Pr0n laws covering movies have in fact been shaken up recently, you can legally buy and sell pr0n in the UK that only a few years back was considered "hardcore".

Lowering the sex age ? Below 16 you mean ? So dirty old men can f*ck little girls - I think not.

A rather sweeping statement for all 600+ MEPs ? In any case why should they have more or less respect then any other parliamentry representative, I'm sure you can find plenty of examples of disrespect in our own government.

On the contrary, many rich people (and the businesses they own) have huge investments in American affairs, which will suffer financially if the UK adopts the Euro, no surprise then that those anti-Euro groups are coincidently pro-USA or promoted by USA based companies.

As has been highlighted by the car dealer industry, many products in this country are restricted by franchises which puts a premium on the product. Adopting the single currency also means adopting the single market, the so-called "euro-zone", in which the same goods from other european countries are equally accessable here, in short this means an end to "rip off Britain".
