Certain classes NEED to spec in a certain path otherwise there class is useless, for example :-

Infiltrators and STEALTH
Minstrels and INSTRUMENTS
Paladins and CHANTS

By not putting any points into these when you gain leveles, the game will automaticaly give you a free point every four (i think) levels into this skill

ah, like that.

Mercs for example get a free level of slash every 8(?) levels, as long as they dont spec in it.

Yep autotrain happens every 8 levels as long as it hasn't been trained extar by the player

Also think tank classes auto in Slash & Thrust, the only one not autotrained is Crush afaik (only for fighters in alb)

Its actualy every 4 levels, but it dosnt happen at lvl4 because your skills start out at 1, not 0. Auto training tries to keep the skill at 1/4 your current level, and happens the second you Ding, aslong as your skills are low enough.

List of who autotrains what:

Albs:
Armsmen: Slash, Thrust
Infiltraitor: Stealth
Mercenary: Slash, Thrust
Minstrel: Instruments
Paladin: Chants, Slash
Reaver: Slash, Flexible
Scout: Long bow

Hibs:
Ranger: Bow
Nightshade: Stealth

Mids:
Shadowblade: Stealth
Warrior: Axe, Sword, Hammer

So, from the list, the viability of classes to (ab)use autotraining:

Armsmen: spec crush + shield/2h/pole
Infiltraitor: dont spec stealth, just group, or spec thrust+DW
Mercenary: spec crush + DW/shield
Minstrel: Just spec slash
Paladin: Thrust/Crush + 2h/shield, play as an armsman [edit - note, paladins get double autotrain freeby points because they auto 2 lines..]
Reaver: spec crush/thrust + soulrend + shield
Scout: Spec slash/thrust+shield

Ranger: pierce/blades + CD
Nightshade: roleplay as a blademaster

Shadowblade: roleplay a kobby zerker!
Warrior: .... yes, you see a lot of 50 shield, 50 thrown, 28 parry warriors...

(yes, hibs, and especialy mids, get skrewed over by auotrain)

Yes you autotrain every 4 levels as long as you put NO POINTS in the lines that you autotrain. So if a paladin decides not to train in both slash and chants until level 48, and remembers to retrain at level 40 out of e.g. crush, and then does 41-48 with a slash skill of 11 - 12, the paladin will get 144 extra training points. (if you are a S/S paladin by the way and go this route its a fun challenge but level 41 was a pain until you get slam at 42).

As for hibs and mids getting skrewed err Scouts and Minstrels can be power leveled but they don't exactly 'autotrain'. Putting points into weapon and shield is not an option. They couldn't get past 41 either. PL route only. If they are though its 77 training points - at a guess = 2 points in stealth.

Armsmen: they will happily suggest that the other realms get their autotrain 'bonus' along with the same method of training 2H. Then again I suppose training 2H in mid/hib is equivalent to autotraining in slash, thrust and thrust every level. So I doubt that there would be many takers.

In reality the only easy option is to auto stealth - which all realms get.

In addition autotrain was one of the original features in the game and as such has been overtaken by armour type modifiers. Armsmen, for example, may want to be thrust. Not a consideration for hib/mid 2H wielders of course but for albion tanks who do not have the triple style luxury it matters.

come on, like you need stealth on a infil while exping
would be more social to go for the pure weapon spec first

Who said an infil needs stealth to exp ? All i stated was that an infiltrator is useless without stealth.

Also, Autotrain doesn't work if you use /level.
So when you want to autotrain a char then you'll have to start at 1 :p

more relevant is that a infil is useless in RvR anyway when he's not 50 (and without stealth he's NOT useless in pve on any level)
might as well autotrain it cuz you'll still be equally 'useful'...

you can, just level up to 40 for example without speccing in the skill thats normally autotrained, respec it then and it pops from '1' to the appropriate level without losing points...

or if you dont mind using a respec stone you can do this at 48 if you like
