I know each time you go up a realm rank you get +1 in all skills... but how exactly does this work? Can you get new styles/spells if the skill is under 50, with the extra realm rank points?
RR +spec dont give "styles or abilities", only with 2 exceptions. Stealth and Envenom.
EG If you have 49 slash, and you get RR2 (which gives you +1 to all speclinesm including slash) It shows you have 49+1 = 50 slash. You dont get the L50 Slash style.
However with Envenom, you have 49 envenom and get RR2, +1, you can use L50 poison.
Normally they only add damage & effectiveness of the specline.
Weapon specs gain more damage (less variety that is) and damage spells too. Some speclines are totally unaffected by +spec thingies.
