With your trading cards?

im not talking about trading cards as Magic and so on, but more like ice hockey or football collectables!

Its for my internship. I need to come up with a game that involves using trading cards for skateboard slalom contenders for this falls Skateboard Slalom world championships.

Please post your ideas, your old games and so on!

Thanks!

Surely your best bet would be to rip off top trumps and use a set number of variables for each of the contestants.

Height....
Tournaments won....
Number of humourous accidents...
Times crotch has hit metal....
Pints of blood received during transfusions....

Im sure you are probably more adept at picking the variables as my knowledge of skateboarding is comparible to that of George Bush and running a country. However adopting (read as stealing) this format would probably be the easiest.

So far there are two ways of going at it.

Either use the contendors real life stats as variables in the game.
Or simply make up my own set.

The layout of the card will be:
Front side: Big picture and name of skateboarder.
Backside: Stats and/or previous achivements & game stats.

The reason to why we just dont do trading cards is because, well they are dull as hell.. you can only collect and trade them nothing else. But if you can play a game with them aswell, then you got more value to them then just collecting.

And this part of the whole Skateboard Slalom Worldchampionships in august project, Im working alone with the trading cards and card game with very little help in feedback, hence me comming here. :)

Surely having the details of the skater on the back of the card would be stupid as the person/people sitting opposite would be able to see what you had.

And also fans would want proper stats.

Ps. me calling you stupid and condemning your ideas is about as constructive as I get. Dont be offended. I hate most people.

all sports trading cards have stats printed on the back, and seeing that you will see the wich "dude" it is on the front in any case, wanting to hide the statistics on the backside would be quite hard how ever you turn on the card.
So im thinking its an "open hand" type of card game where possibly strategy and/or a randomly generated variable decides the outcome.

I could actually use my magnificent powers of game designer to actually design the f*ck out of those cards...but...

that would mean; A: giving up my ideas for my own game and B: cost a good 20/hour :D

But to be constructive, just think texas hold 'em.

We used to get naked and picked a card each to bet. Whoever had the larger penis would get the other guy's card. I lost all my cards.

ive been through the stage of thinking regular card games, since they in 99% of the cases involve hidden cards and seeing that the playingcards used have to be multi-purpousal (if thats a word) the regular playing card idea dosnt work. sadly.

im thinking along the lines of magic, but still not magic.. confusing? it sure is for me -.-

Assuming this is for youngsters and you actually want them to play with the cards, surely a top trumps scenario? But then you would have to blank out the back of the card and have a picture and the stats all on one side.

Or maybe you could have some sort of booklet that you slot the cards in to. Gotta Catch em All! stylee.

Think outside the box, like with hold 'em, just take what makes that game interesting(the randomness, the every card changes, the "betting"(not really)) and use those to create rules to your own.

Like, quick example, one would have to set a team on the board, from a stack/set, that would win most of the attribute "stacks".

Say, they had:

Power.
Agility.
Whatnot.

Player one strikes down a card:

Power 1
Agility 3
Whatnot 5.

Player two puts down:

Power 3
Agility 1
Whatnot 6

Player two leads, player one puts down another card, who adds to to the "team" score etc etc.

yes that was my initial idea to have a setup like that. But for the game to stay intresting for more then a couple of rounds of playing.. there needs to be a secret factor to it. maybe not knowing what the other player is having.

i.e this needs to be a game where the players play with 3 variables or so.

open cards (knowing what the other player got)
strategy (this takes place in the players head)
luck (a random number generator, say a dice)

your idea is great though.. and has some common things with a trading card game with DAoC theme i got in a secret note book somewhere ;)

Did someone say Top Trumps?

I collected the FA Premier League sticker album for the 95-96 season, I've still got the album it's ace whilst my brother has the complete World Cup 1990 sticker album, which is a stunning album
