OK.

Give some more details of your PC.

What motherboard?

What processor?

Basically, you want to increase the FSB (front side bus) from whatever it is on at the moment (100? 133? 66?) to a slightly higher number.

a 10% increase should be fine.

This can be done in the BIOS of most motherboards.

If you have a newer Athlon chip, you may be able to change the multiplier. e.g a 1000 Mhz Athlon has a 10x multiplier and a 100 FSB.

10 x 100 = 1000.

My 1333 Athlon has a 10 x multi and a 133 bus.

I would say a 10% overclock is easily obtainable.

A 20% overclock is fairly standard.

More than 20 % and you are doing well!

Again, it depends on what cooling, what chip, what OS, what motherboard etc etc.

Let me know OK?

Regards,

Jimbo

Cmon Lead Nibbler. Show a bit of courtesy. It must be difficult for him only having the single braincell to work with .

Having to type correctly and spell is just maybe a little more than he could manage.

Hello... only me.

I wouldn't mind knowing about overclocking.

Mobo - asus not sure what model i will look that up
processor - athlon 1.4
os 98se
cooling - not sure but it makes a bloody noise. Something i need to look into.
ram - 2024
keyboard - dirty
mouse - yes

How do you actually increase this so called FSB?

FSB - reminds me of a nickname i had at school. fucking stupid bastard or something like that.

Get into your BIOS, normally by pressing delete at start-up. But I really, really don't recommend it until you know what sort of cooling you've got going on inside that case of yours...

Very good....make sure you get AS2 as well. I can get my 1.2Ghz up to 1.4Ghz and run at a load of 45c...this is with only one extra case fan :)

I got my 1gig running at 1.4gig with the 100mhz FSB ramped to 133mhz.

Load temp is around 48C. Two YS-Tech 80mm case fans.
Ambient temp is around 20-25C.

Yummy.

Holly crap! First thing you should do is ditch Win98 in favour of Win2000 or (even better) WinXP. Win98 doesn't know what the fuck to so with 2GB of memory, which will actually degrade the performance of your system.

The proper Windows versions (2000, XP) will handle that RAM a lot, LOT better and you should notice a big performance increase instantly.

You need the best CoolerMaster cooling system for your 1.4GHz processor as well, plus at least an exhaust fan at the back of your case.
