Hotel Ripoff

The Boy Ash aint ammused. In March, I booked a hotel for a weekend in the lakes for me, the missus and the rugrat. 2 weeks afterwards I cancelled it via phone. Everything was OK until I got my September visa statement.

Low & Behold the hotel debited my card for £240.00 of your finest English Pounds. I promptly phoned the htoel up and was told that they would not refund the £240.00 they debitied as they could not fill the room. They also said I did not write in to them to cancell the booking

I pointed out that if it was good enough for me to phone and make the booking then surely it was good enough for me to phone and cancel the booking. I also pointed out if the hotel was as good as they made out then they should have no problem filling our room. Bearing in mind that we booked and cancelled in March and our reservation was for July; some four months later

After demanding the refund she refused. I told her no problem as I would claim the money back from Barclaycard. She went off on one saying I was out of order and that she would take us to court if we did get a refund. Talk about customer service. I have left it in the hands of Barclays to get the money back.

most hotels will cancel upto 24 hours before check-in via phone and even the ones that do charge a fee normally take about 10% of room charge.

Sounds like somebody made a mistake at the hotel. Business travellers cancel all the time, I have never had a deposit kept back by ANY hotel, so they won't get away with it.
