So, you want to do some training, eh?
If you are in for some serious waste of time, visiting the weaponcraft-trademaster is the right thing to do. But before you take up any craft, visit the following page:
www.daoctradeskills.com
There you can find the basics of crafting, together with a good board. Handling quickbars and the actual making of things is discussed here very detailed, and explained better and faster than any in-game crafter could.
I only want to point out some general additions and notes on weaponcraft:
1. It's the hardest and slowest craft. We can't produce money with tricks like the armorcrafters. Our only way of earning coin is through consignments and selling to others.
2. How to start:
If you receive help from your guild, you can burn money on the first levels (bronze, iron, steel) and start with consignments around alloy. At higher levels, consignments are inevitable, as mithril and adamantium are just soo expensive. Also, guild support is important, as a freelance crafter you will get in trouble sooner or later. IF you have no guild, do consignments right from the start.
3. Consignments? Huh?
These are tasks your craftsmaster gives you. Approach him and say "task". You now have to deliver a weapon to a person in Camelot. Make the weapon, approach a guard, say /where nameofperson and he will point you in the right direction. A lot of searching will be requred at first, but you'll get to know Camelot fast.
3. How to powerskill (if you do not do consignments)
Make thrusting weapons, namely dirks, stilettos, main gauches, rapier. Try to alternate these with hammer/mace/flanged mace/spiked mace. This will help keeping your secondary skills in touch with the main skill (weaponcraft). Secondary skils are leatherwork (hilts, increases when making swordlike weapons), metalwork (always increases with any weapon you make) and woodwork (increases when making hafts for axes, maces, polearms but also shields). A good crafter needs all his secondary skills at maximum, so you can make all weapons necessary (Consigments are good for this, as they let you make all kinds of weapons). Because of that you should alternate between thrusters and maces, as these use up less materials than other weapon types. At x85 skill, you will want to change to roundshields, as these are the cheapest to make and help to increase your skill way into the next material level. In general, try working with yellow/orange weapons, orange weapons to be preferred, as your skill increases faster with these.
To keep going, you will have to salvage your weapons. Drop the weapon to the ground, target it and type /salvage (best make a macro with /macro SAL /salvage). You will get back some metal or wood, from weapons/shields.
4. You don't have the necessary leatherwork/metalwork to make that weapon!
Do not worry You can always increase your secondary skills by taking up another craft. Yes, even as a weaponcrafter you can do tailoring (good for leatherwork), armorcraft (leatherwork AND metalwork with studded armor/chainmail) or fletching (woodwork). This is a cheap and easy way to increase your secondaries, and it works at ANY level of skill.
Example: I increased my leatherwork from 680 to 690 by crafting armor on an armorcraft level of around 70.
IMPORTANT: Do this at regular intervals when doing consignments, for you will only get consignments for yellow/orange stuff when your secondaries are up to date.
5. Sell your stuff
Do advertising in Camelot, place your craft-skill in the board-siggy, set up shop at www.markedangel.com/daoc
6. I dont care about being a good crafter, I just wanna make siege-stuff
Okay, then get your skill up to 500 by using one of the methods described here, depending on the funds you got. BUT keep in mind that your secondaries need to be over 450 as well!
7. Get yourself some nice people to chat with
Else crafting will be boring as hell. Other ways to get along are TV, or reading a book.
8. Believe in yourself
