Purely out of interest...

Can anyone recommend a nice mini-break type destination that's not too expensive and easy to get around for a pair of linguistically impaired Brits ? :)

Or any websites where one might pick up such a holiday on the cheap ? :)

Prague. Cost of living there is amazingly cheap. Went for a week and spent £100 whilst living like a king.

Example: 3-course meal on a boat on the river Vltava (in heart of Prague) with 2 pints and a bottle of wine - £4.

Usual price for a pint of pilsner is anything from 20p (away from tourist spot) to £1 (in the heart of touristland).

Great place too, great clubs and loads of history if thats your thing.

They speak enough English for you to get by no prob m8. There's quite a few yanks, aussies etc there.

I stayed at a hotel which was paid by work so can't comment but as its one of THE backpacker places (its quite like Amsterdam but more cultured and less sleaze) there must be shitloads of sites for info. As for which region - you want the Old Town. Whatever you spend on acc/flights will be more than made up for with the cheap prices over there m8.

Just one thing - their idea of vegetarianism is having veg with your meat :) The concept of being a veggie doesn't exist over there.

Blag a copy of the Rough Guide or Dorling Kindersley guide to Prague.

Yep, I have heard many good things about this place. Cheap, nice looking tottie and no longer flooded.

English is OK cos I have a mate who works for PricewaterhouseCoopers out there and he gets on.

Prauge, rip-off-capital of the world.

Around the square there are OUTRAGEOUS prices for the resteraunts, goods etc. Surrounding area isnt exactly beautiful, very run down.

Police are corrupt, pulled a canadian friend over for apparently running a traffic light (this was on a motorway) and demanded money. Mate protested till the cop pulled out a gun and pushed him onto the bonnet of their car. Took most of his cash.

Nice crystal place though, cracking architecture, nice looking etc, really regret not having bought a Russian Colonels furry hat thing.

*regret*

Prague's very nice apparently, my parents and some friends went for my Mum's 50th a month ago and they loved it. The blokes all got suitably drunk on the cheap beer (mostly lager it seems) and they enjoyed it.

Basically what everyone else said about Prague. Be careful though, pickpockets are rife and people WILL try and rip you off. I could get hold of some info for you if you needed Wijl0r.

On a related subject, anyone ever booked up / paid for their parents (or someone else's) holiday as a surprise? If so any recommendations for travel places which specialise / help with this kind of thing?
