...but who's going to pay $4227 for an 800Mhz Itanium anyway?
Not me, as I've got an XP amd thingy that, while running at a lowly 1,53Mhz, prolly pees all over the Itanium anyhoo heh
besides, I can buy a dual alpha for less than $4227 too ;)
double heh innit :D

I'll take reliability over speed any day.

Christ there's always one. "My AMD rig hasnt crashed in the last 3829540435834905 months and has taken everything I've thrown at it". I wish these people would realise that they are the exception rather than the rule.

No Bodhi but I fail to see is a reason how you seem to justify some of the crap you say.

The reliability of Intel/AMD issue was one that was being bounced around years a go but it simply isn't true, it was even hard to prove conclusively back then. There isn't any way of easily telling which one is more reliable.

What I can tell you is that Intel have had two very embarrassing moments...the first with the Pentium and then with the Pentium 3.

The Pentium one related to problems with the FPU and the second was the 1.13Ghz stock of P3 that was utter shit and recalled.

Do you WANT me to delve into AMD's back catalogue of problems?

Thermal Protection anyone?

If I manage to knock my heatsink and fan off my processor, I think I'll be blaming myself, not AMD. Thermal protection just isn't an issue for most home users.

there is the caravan thing to consider tho lads :)

Hmnnn, but if I pay Intel prices, I'll have to sell the caravan and get a tent.

Exactly. Why pay more for something that massively underperforms its cheaper, better, more reliable counterpart?

Aye, asking for the Intel hordes to descend on you there Wazz, but no point throwing money away. Give me a choice between brand awareness and price, and I'll take price every time.

I don't know any one who has had a problem with their HSF suddenly falling off and the chip melting.

You were doing well until the better part, and completely lost the plot when you mentioned more reliable. Never mind eh Wazz?

Does that mean it doesn't happen?

No but trying to put it as a reliability issue is just stupid....although expected.

Yes of course, thermal protection is dumb and a processor doesnt need it. A mate of mine who's thermoengine broke off in transit would agree with you there! But hey I wouldn't want to deflate you from the superior position you seem to find yourself.

And he didn't check at all? Your mate is a moron. ;)
Thermal protection is nice and all, but it isn't a reason for me to shell out for an over-priced chip.
