Well my 360 is dying. Got my first RROD and error 79 today, I havent even bothered flashing it. Weird thing is that today last year I actually bought it. The very same day, warranty is sorted, still under cover so just waiting on email with details.

It still works which is nice but i thought I'd better sort it sooner rather than later. Just how many of these systems have died?

Phucking Phantasy Star Universe was in it aswell, games cost me so much money and NOW A CONSOLE DEATH? Grrrrr.

mine died yesterday. I plugged everything out and in once again, and now it's working like a charm :)

Get it sent back I believe is the general concensus, I know several people who started getting occasional errors and then dying a few months later, 0800 587 1102 is the number, 10 minute wait 10 minutes to sort, no receipt needed just need the serial. I pretty much guarantee yours will be within guarantee time slot.

Mine worked fine immediately afterwards.

Oddly enough I bought a few games from play-asia and when I put in Rainbow Six in for the first time on Christmas Day I swear my drive sounded like a jet engine taking off (been the same since) - if it's going to die I hope it does it soon I bought mine in January this year.

Some batches amongst the initial 500,000 had some very shoddy soldering and many are starting to suffer from loose solder joints, this is the main reason Microsoft are replacing those early consoles 'no questions asked' so to speak. It is much cheaper to do that than publically admit that mistakes were made early on and do a recall on all units made before Dec 2005, this way they only take the hit on the consoles that have died and not on the ones that are still working (*for now).

So as I bought mine about a week ago, I should be OK? i.e. I shouldn't expect mine to blow up this time next year right?
