HNY to me is not "Happy New Year". Its just mobilephonetextspeak, a meaningless and unecessary abreviation where none is needed and diminishes the sincerity of the message.

You mean the sincerity of an unimaginative default wish of happiness for a period of time that only has some meaning to a bunch of evolved apes, who like to shoot rockets to scare the boogieman in early hiding, given to any and all people you happen to meet on that arbitrary day, since you don't wish people a happy day every day now do you, and sometimes in bulk to whole nations, stated with meaning or in most cases not, simply due to it being the custom and even if it makes no difference to the upcoming year as every year most likely has some happiness as well as other emotions in it?

That sincerity? The meaningful and needed sincerity of which you speaketh?
