While i was traveling in Laos i learned about the horrorific secret war the US waged in Laos against the Vietminh and Pathet Lao. They fought alongside the Neutral Army of Laos who were a bunch of chickens and the Hmong (previously called Meo, an ethnic slur).

The Hmong are one of the greatest gueriella soldiers and possess a will to survive. After US withdrew all its troops the Hmong, as has been the nature of their enemies throughout time, hunted them as animals and killed them on sight. Now, more than 30 years after they were left to fend for themselves against the communists that seek them dead, and are still being hunted through the woods of Northeren Laos. The odds of this ethnic group to survive is pretty slim unless there will be some intervention from the west.

The War itself is pretty interesting and i got caught by surprise as ive never learned about it in school, even tough we had ½ year with the Vietnam war.
There is a few books on the war and i hope to read alot more about this.

Here are some pictures from KC Ortiz who followed them through the jungle a few years back. Check em out and read up on this war if you dont know about it.

I'm sickened to the core by any act of "ethnic cleansing", you'd have hoped that as a race we'd have moved on from skin colour and religion. The last century is however full of horrors. Everyone knows about the holocaust, but everyone should be educated on the countless other war crimes that have been committed across the world in recent times.

Gran Torino taught me that alot of the Hmong people got moved to the USA and as it was in a movie it must be true!
