hmm annoying config

when i change stuff in my q3 config like max fps etc ,no problem my q3 saves them and next time i go in game the settings are still there.
however when i try to change rate from the default modem spec of 300 up to 7000 and also my name to throdgrain^1{KEA} (i.e. me clan name in red) it stays in for that game,but on my next visit to a server its back to 3000 rate and plain ol' white name.i even tried an autoexec for this,first time i went online with it i typed /exec autoexec.cfg and hey presto proper rate and red name.however on my next visit... you guessed it....
the strange thing is when i go into single player i got a bloody red name and a 7000 rate!then back online and 3000!
could anyone tell me why this is? i tried calling the autoexec autoexec.cfg but then it wouldn't exec it at all.

Yeah, my config is doing the same old crap that it used to. I just exec it manually each time I get onto a server nowadays anyway. I'm having the problem of the scrollwheel not working again until I re-exec my config. I'm also using the in_mouse -1 setting which also doesn't seem to work properly from my config. TBH, my quick fix is to get really fast at typing in_mouse -1, in_restart in the 5 seconds I have before the next round of CA starts

There are two commands at console .......

set

which will set something ONLY for that session, and

seta

which will set it for good and save to your q3config.cfg

You may be having the prob that many ppl have with cfg's still not saving stuff, in which case, do as already mentioned and setup a cfg you can exec manually, or an autoexec.cfg which 'should' exec itself.

cheers ch@m,however as i say i tried it as cfg but it dont exec.i got it as seta name "throdgrain^1{KEA}" as well ,it just dont want to know ,the bloody thing...
odd thing is, i just did seta cg_noprojectiletrail 1 and no problem.
i dont have to put seta name throdgrain^1{KEA} 1 do i??

One thing that might be worth checking .......

previous point releases / mods' bugs have been resolved by making your q3config.cfg read-only. I don't suppose you did that and havent put it back? Check the file properties of q3config.cfg and make sure it's not read-only. Saying that tho, autoexec.cfg (in baseq3) should still work .......... hm, what a pain!
I've seen quite a few people with this cfg problem, but never heard an outright solution short of reinstalling q3 or manually execing the cfg
Do you have lots of mods, lots of custom maps and all sorts like that? I do know that many problems can occur when you have a large amount of files within quakeiiiarena ......

Do u use gamepsy??
Gamespy by default creates a cfg file with your rate, name and some other stuff and unless you tell it not to, will exec this file when you connect through gamespy. Go into the options menu in gamepsy and uncheck this box! I wouldnt be surprised if other game browsers did this also, so worth looking in the settings. This would explain why something a little more obsucre, like cg_noprojectiletrail would stay set, while name or rate wouldnt.

ive now got the right rate by changing it in options tho me name remains white.do u know where the box is for the cfg file?

hey i got it! listen up all u folks like me who can sort this out!
if u click on player profiles in gamespy ,then edit ,then change q3 settings,then type in the name of ur autoexec file in the box , it will exec it errrr...automatically! i got me name and me rate and all that stuff!
