Doesn't surprise me, these big games slip all the time.
Take Breed for example, I had it on order when they said the release date was March this year. It's slipped four or five times and now they've settled on a slightly more optomistic date in October.

And whatever happened to Team Fortress 2??????

The difference being that HL2 has been in production since HL1 hit the shelves. They only decided to admit it's existence when they knew a firm date for when it was ready. I'm sure it'll be out late september as they said.

CM4. Release date pushed back twice, then five or six patches within 4 months of it being released. Please don't let this happen :/

And, (obviously subjective) stats on how many patches it takes most games to reach a proper state where they should be released in the first place nowadays.

BF1942 for instance, 4 patches and 8 months or so to be really finished. The daily planetside patches that made the game progressivly worse. Operation Flashpoint that took a year to become playable at all, etc...

If i remember rightly when Half-life came out with no patches at all it seemed pretty good to me, the netcode was great.

To have kept it under wraps for so long, then to say September would point to me as a "before the end of the year for certain" statment. If it goes according to plan September, but definetly not later than xmas.

I really don't care tbh, I've waited 5 years so far, a little bit longer isn't really gonna make a big difference. ANy way I just got three games to play so it gives me time to enjoy them before HL2 arrives.

Valve are not completely stupid, HL2 will not be released before CS:CZ. They will capitalise on what is by all accounts a very poor game, and then release HL2. So we will have to wait at least until September for CZ, then another month or so for HL2.
