According to the agrement Valve have with Vivendi, Valve can release it on steam the same day its in the shops. Therefore it will be available everywhere on steam on the 16th. I take your point if you wanted a box for some reason though.

Me? Ive ordered via Steam. Im already playing CS:S and Ive backed up the CS and HL cache files onto a DVD so should I ever need to do a reinstall I can just put the cache files back and download the patches (which is what people who get the box will essentially have to do anyway)

Vivendi is saying it will be avaliable in all shops worldwide on the 16th, can imagine this being so for everywhere but the UK given the situation that Britain has with PC release dates ... despite Vivendi (and the shops) loosing sales to Steam.

Horses for Courses - I like the box/cd's/manual. Feels like a proper purchase. I felt dirty paying for a download.

Steam "unlocked" a load of stuff this morning, I had high hopes but then no, nothings changed

It unlocked game files for hl2 and CS:source, and then downloaded some more of the pre-load. DoD and CS files.
