Right I will make a start.

Q) Overflow errors kicking you from servers.

A) YOu are using an ATI card, untill the pacth use direc3d mode.

A2) You have a opengl hack installed on your pc, even if it is not active HL will kick you from servers with overflow error. Uninstall the hack to play again

Q) My voice comms doestn work, I cant set-it up/ I dont get a mic icon / I cant speak using it.

A) Voice comms will only work on full duplex pci sound cards

"for the Voice Chat to work, the user must have a sound card that is Full Duplex and is NOT ISA. Only PCI cards are supported with the new Voice system. At least this is what we found in our compatibility run on sounds cards running it correctly."

A2) You need to setup voice comms, if you dont do this during install go to your sierra group on the start menu, find hl or cs and there should be a setup coice comms icon to lick on.

A3) YOu only get a mic icon on other players not you, a greyed out mic ,means no voice comms enabled either lcient or server side.

A4) To speak u must bind a key to voice comms, either in controls setup or binding a key to +voicerecord , this is not a toggle you must hold it down to speak.

Q) I get a cannot find \hl\dmc\client.dll error or similar.

A) If you are installing either the hl11071108 or cs 10021003 pacthes you must be upgradin from 1002 with DMC installe dor 1107 with DMC installed. You can use the full pacthes or d/l dmc to fix this. If it says another file i.e a TFC file, make sure you havent deleted the TFC folder.

Its a problem cause by having the ATI OR using a hack.

Just use direct3d mode until the pacth is out (which should be tonight).

I never did any sound installation thing, I just ran the cs and halflife update patches, loaded it up, bound a key to +voicerecord when somebody told me what it was and it worked perfectly ;-)

ok then,why cant i connect to inferno maps any more.i have retail version btw.there's a missing file thing on bw but that says it's for survivor not inferno.the error message says i have incorrect map .
another question, are we sure this is allworth the bloody bother

thanks itchy i did see ur post but as i'd read in a previous post (called inferno) that there WAS a map pack u could download so i didnt know what to beleive.
amazing when u think that the retail customers PAID for their game and have to wait ,yet the downloaded for free folks get their stuff right away.maybe they r considered older customers i dunno.however i run a business,and i wouldnt run it like this...
i actually only paid for mine cos me download kept going wrong , i may have another go at it tbh :/
