Hints for new players

Thought i'd write down a few points that new players should to know to make their leveling and starting days easier.

1. The quality on your equipment plays a huge difference, under no circumstances use 70% quality weapons or armor if you can get better.

2. When you die and have to /release, remember to visit a Healer NPC, and buy your constitution back, and remember if you /pray afterwards, you dont lose any xp from /release.

3. If you play a Healer or Shaman, you are much more likely to get invited to groups than if you play fx. a Hunter or Shadowblade. (Warriors and Skalds are also often wanted).

4. Killing alot of bluecons fast, is safer than killing a few orange cons slowly.

5. You can usually specialize in alot of things, but specializing high in 1-3 things is better than specializing in 5 things. Best thing is to research your class a bit, seek advice and ask for a final spec advice. (i promise you later will be happy that you did)

6. Grouping (general):
- all groups need a healer or shaman
- all groups need a fighter (with specced shield)
- casters can usually do more damage than fighters, so if you have a good working group, a caster can make you kill faster.
- damage add (fx. skald song) is really nice
- at level 26 runies can get pulsing bladeturn (if full specced in suppression), such a runie can save your group from being hit alot.
- when grouping the xp gained is determined from the monster compared to highest level player in the group. (so try to keep the highest level as close to the rest in the group)
- keep the healer/shaman alive..

(feel free to add to this thread, constructive replies only please)

Wow that has to be the worst posting for Shadowbaldes and Hunters.
So basically you're saying don't be a Shadowbalde or Hunter cos nobody likes them? And they are crap?

Boo Hiss...down with the nasty man :(

- Keep shadowblades out of your team at all costs
- Don't hit the mobs with zzzz over their head

- TAKE ADVICE FROM PLAYERS THAT DO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

the last might be crucial

some useful links:

http://www.amazonsofmidgard.com/links.htm

and basic advices:

- behave like you want to be treated... (a small fact a lot of people tend to forget)

- choose your guild wisely (do not join the first guild invite which pops up on your screen -> guild life seriously affects your playfun in this game at all levels)

- ask high level people for advice (they can help you, do not get angry if some will not reply as they may be in battle, ask others... you will be helped)

- READ the booklet regarding how to communicate in main/ grp/ guild/ chat channels. I have seen A LOT of people who could not differentiate those channels at early levels... It is there when u need to ask most for assistance in forming your play character...

- Learn from the veteran players who are levelling your alt while playing with you...

- all classes have their pros and cons. If you want to know which class to play think about how YOU want to play this game (solo or in groups, infighting or casting, with pets, stealthed,... etc. Then the choice of char suddely becomes easy.

Click on everything, to check its aggression. Usually, neutral and hostile you can wander past safely.

Don't train until you hit level 5 unless you really need to or are sure of the specialisations you will take because you researched in advance.

Unless you have higher level friends or get lucky with gifts, you will struggle for equipment. Do all the low level quests you can find for your char class to tool up. This saves you an incredible amount of cash which you can then put by for better items later on.
Do Epic quests while levelling if possible. These usually provide amongst the best non-crafted items your character class can get its hands on.

Don't beg. Ever. Your future credibility depends on this. Ask for help from people nicely and often you'll get it. There are always lots of peeps willing to give advice, and in some cases may take some time out to help. Remember, they are under no obligation and when helping you, are taking time out of their own enjoyment of the game.

LFG flag is your friend. Conversely, if you are leading a group, remember to set the flags for team members you are in need of. People are not psychic.

Don't spam main or broadcast channels. Again, you will find people just remember you as annoying and are less likely to group or help you. Keep any requests concise (I could learn from this) and polite.

Don't assume because you were level 100000 in Diablo X, run a company of Y employees in real life or are UberNetBunnyHaxx0rGuy that you automatically have credibility in DAoC. Learn it and earn it.

If you're not having fun, take a break. Getting a level isn't as important as having fun and enjoying the game. We're all guilty of this, we all say it, and few do it. Worth reminding peeps though ;)

A hint, at lower levels (before 40) you _dont_ want shield tank. You want 3 zerks tanking and supp sm blowing things up. Past 40 you need to add runie with bt, and _optionally_ shield bot (tank) with guard/protect/intercept on sm. And yes, always include standart support team - 2 healers(pac and aug spec) and shaman.

Dont take into group shadowblades. There'are enough of them already. Only exception - shadowblade with bot, take both into group and make sb play bot, when sb is stuck to healer.

http://www.io.com/~caladin/kirstena/ has some decent maps, print them out, lvl 1-5 can sometimes be a pain in the ass. When i start a char i normaly start in Fort Atla, i do the snake venom quest there get it from trainer, at lvl 3 i ride to haggerfell, do the quest for Guard Rinda, then Bolli in mularn, at lvl 4 you have the trall keeper outside vasudheim, thoose thralls give good xp too. And a guard at bindstone in Audliten, Then finish off your last bulbs doin the talk to you future trainer quest. lvl 4 can be a pain if you just go tanking mobs.

ignore all of the above....

1)Acquire a lvl 50 buffbot
2)Solo all the way to 50

Lots of information, somehow i doubt that a newbie would read this, since he prolly wouldn´t be able to know to look here.

...but if someone takes all the answers and pastes them into one, then sticks it into the newbie area... ;)

More anti-SB comments.....Oh come on, give them a break, everyone needs to play a character of their choice. Just because they choose a ShadowBlade/Hunter they shouldn't be discriminated against, and that's just what it is DISCRIMINATION.
Give everyone a fair chance and stop the SB/Hunter hatred now.

fair comment but ImO its not essential , you can get along without one , just takes a bit of imagination :great:

my one bit of sage like advice would be ..when your going RvR , make sure you do the following things :)

1) when you see a load of enimies and a person in your group mezzes them , either guard your casters ( if a tank ) or go for the enemies that are not mezzed first

2) your first target should be a caster , prefrebly a healer class or a nuker , if you are guarding , never leave your ViP

3) always /stick your leader after a fight , dont rebuff in the wake of a fight , move and got somewhere safe first

4) if you lose your group , sont move around and get lost , just say " guys im oos" in group chat and stay still for them to come back and get you ,

i know i shouldnt be sayin this as im playing alb :) but i sorta owe it to mid, had a good time when i was playing my healer there , see you all in the field :mgwhore2: :great:

Think this mainly comes from rvr, where sb's/hunters go off on their own, not wanting to group with none stealthers, but there are a few sb's/hunters that dont care what they group with, aslong as its not an enemy. :)

1 golden rule) if you ever need money or something similar, dont just msg a random 50 and say money plz, cos tbh you are a tosser if you just say that, dont ask ofr an extortionate amount either, if you around lvl 10, 10g should cover costs pretty much, it is much better if you POLITELY ask or roleplay it, tbh ive told so many lowbies to buzz off cos of the incessant "money plz" then if i give them 10g, they say "wtf am i gonna do with this, i need 50g" please take what you are given, because if not, you will most likely end up with nothing.

i've earned the right to say so, and im not saying dont be a shadowblade or hunter, but you should be aware of the fact that those classes are not very group friendly

I made a "easy to remember" url for this thread

Just point the new people to: http://new2mid.tk/ and they end up here.

Cheers to all who contributed.

I want to repeat Sharmas input as I find that very good :)

I don't have time for beggars. What I do have time for is being asked politely for specific things by low lvls.

eg. "Excuse me sir, forgive me for asking but would it be possible for me to ask you for the cost of a horse ride to Vasudheim?" - Result - of course, give the lowbie viking 10g, a few lowbie drops and a few hints on where to lvl after a 2 min chat.

as opposed to:

"gold plz?", "got any gold?", "need gold", "hey give me some gold" to which I either ignore or give em a lecture on manners.

Hmm, looking back, anyone who says PLZ is automatically ignored.

oh and spamming "buffs plz" really just will not work. SB's dont buff ffs ;)

if you are new, try to group at level 1-5 - you learn the way a group works, make a new friend or 2 and can help each other level up a bit and have more fun than solo.

let's see

at lower levels they can hardly tank

they do rather shitty damage, need alot of healing, and when they finally ding 50 they're rather useless in groups again

ps : not too mention that i still blame sb's for nerfing the shit out of the la line, so i can't say i like sb's

ps2 : ok maybe some, you know who you are
