Faster, and very very casual friendly. You can do almost all of the PvE solo with Henchmen (computer controlled characters that you chose and that help you, if you dont want to group with humans). If you dont want to PvE at all you can make PvP-only characters that start at max level with fully useable weapons and armour, although with a limited selection of skills - you can then unlock more upgrades and skills with a PvE character later that your pvp characters can use. So you can get pvp action from the first time you log on.

The PvP is always reasonably fair since equipment and such doesnt really matter much and you are always an equal number competing - what matters is group build, and elite skills to some degree. If you encounter a guild/set group with a pickup group you are at a disadvantage since you havent planed what people will do and what skills they should take to complement each other, and most of the time they wont cooperate very well. You can go to an arena where teams are random though, so everyone has an equal footing at that too.

Compared to a real mmorpg the community sucks royally though - its filled with kids on summer hollidays since there is no monthly fee, and most of them are totally obnoxious (or maybe im just too old at 26 to enjoy the way they talk to and treat each other). I actually wish there was a fee.

thx for info. oh and btw ur never 2 old to play video games m8 :)

Indeed not, but you do get too old to find any fun in children talking about what they did to each other mums last night, or using the word gay in every sentence, or talking in 1337, or beeing called a shithead for suggesting a different strategy, or having people leave because "their little brother turned the comp off" after they got what they needed from a mission etc etc.

There is a reason people usually stick to their own age when they socialize in real life :)

Game is still nice tho, i just solo alot and turn off general chat when in camps/towns.

I was doing a 4-person mission last night and someone asked how old everyone was: 16, 28 (me), 30 and 43 :p I was surprised to nearly be the youngest!

I've got my first character near the end and I have a bunch of alts too. It's been good fun ;)

I am in a guild with some friends and ex daoc players from hib excal. The guild were are in atm is called Deadly, although we may change back to being called Vengeance(our old daoc guild).

I find GW quiet fun, the pve isn't bad and has a story line u follow. The pvp is fast paced and really interesting aswell.

It would be nice to see more ex DAOC peeps around though.

And i would agree to what was said earlier, there isn't really any community in this game, but if your in a nice enough guild then it doesnt matter so much.

If you're looking for proper comptetitive PVP and non-grind PVE RPG then guildwars is for you. It's basically the next step in RPGs. Takes some getting used to the fact that everything is instanced, which in turn makes for a less immersive experience at times (the storyline with accompanied movies make up for it imho).

So far the Arenanet guys are the first developers to get it right as far as balance between PVP and PVE is concerned. I doubt we'll be seeing any expansions with savages or TOA from them. They have a great vision of balance and so far with all the patches they have stuck to that vision.

Just don't expect a MMORPG. Most important as with all of these games is finding a group of people to play with. Yes, you can solo but the later missions and endgame dungeons can't be done with henchies alone. I am currently playing with Esoteric Warriors (Rank 29 atm) and the PVP at this level of play just blows away anything DAOC or WOW ever threw at me. The various builds/proper rewards/teamplay combined with the knowledge that everyone you'll come up against has and always will have the same tools to work with in both PVP and PVE make for a great competitive experience.

Yes, as correct as using it for f.ex WoW is. Its layout is different than traditional mmorpgs, but anything you associate with being able to do in a mmorpg you can also do in GW, or so i belive. You can certainly roleplay if you want, the storydriven PvE lends itself well to it, and ive actually done a little bit of it on occasion. You can trade, farm, socialize, pvp etc. Only thing it really doesnt have is a proper crafting system since all you can do is gather the materials and hand them over to a npc crafter that makes the item for you. You will also never encounter other players during your actual "adventures" since these are all in instanced areas, so your socializing will take place in cities and safe areas. But this is a good thing imo, makes you feel more like the centre of the story, or the hero if you will.
