Hifi question

Just a quick question to someone who knows about the real inner workings of hifi.

I know dvd players are crap for cd music n all, but is that because of their DAC? i.e. if I just use a coax digital cable to go to my av amp, would it just be as good as it can get, or would the quality still be better if I did the same with my dedicated cd player..

.. just got my av amp for chrimbo.. FUN!

Better with dedicated CD player....

Digi cable only reduces losses between yer player and yer amp...

If you have a shite player...the sound will be shite...

I make no sense and have just had some sammiclaus... :/

but surely what seperates the two is the DAC.. what else is there. Obviously the DAC isnt usesd if the output is digital..

If it's a true digital out you'll need a DAC to convert it to audio.

I have never been able to tell the difference between my dvd player and my cd player(dvd is Pioneer and stereo is Sony), I didn't realise there was such a difference in quality.

the amp does that though..

In that case it's a toss up between the quality of the DAC on the amp and dvd player. I doubt either are especially high quality. :/

actually the marantz sr5300 is one of the few av amps that's good for music

Just went to richer sounds to get my dads dvd player fixed and asked the question: apparently cd player DACs will almost always be better quality than av amp dacs, hence a cd player connected to it with phono leads will do best.

Just thought you lot might like to know!

p.s. omg double posting n00b!
