I've got hiccups, and no alcohol involved, it's all from giggling :(

Please help.

It's beginning to hurt, and when I was a child I once had hiccups for five days and so I'm getting fear.

Bite a pencil (with one end out of each side of your mough) and drink a glass of water. Thats the only one that ever works for me.

breath in as deep as you can, then deeper, and deeper. Hold it for ages, then let it out slowly as you can

I tried the suggestion of drinking with a pencil in my mouth, which resulted in me spilling water all down my tits, so vaguely achieving Wij's idea in an h2o sense, and then opted for Tom's suggestion.

Tom = teh win. No more hiccups. A crisis averted.

Tank joo!

Go to your tap, get a cup, now get one hand and hold your nose, pour water from tap into cup, now drink fast, repeat until you've had enough.

It works... Altho by the time you read this youve prbably sorted it ;)

NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR HICCUPS:

The sugar cure: Put a teaspoon of sugar under your tongue and then very, very slowly drink a cup of water. Some people find it works just as well to let a teaspoon or two of sugar dissolve in the mouth.
Fill a glass of water, hold your breath, and drink the water from the other side of the cup: in other words, drink the water upside down.
Blow in and out of a brown paper bag held securely to your lips. Make sure you blow with great vigor and do it at least ten times.
Inhale ground black pepper until you sneeze.
Soak a lemon wedge in angostura bitters and then suck on the wedge. Several patients have told me they've used this technique with success.
Take a deep, deep breath and then, holding your nose, drink a glass of water.
Press against the roof of your mouth with a cotton swab.

Hiccups are caused by spasms in the diaphragm, thats the muscle that controls the lungs not female contraception, so Tom's theory works because you're putting pressure on the diaphragm just like you would if your eyelid were twitching. Best way to do it is to fill your lungs to the limit and then keep swallowing air to over inflate them, but just be carefull not to overdo it.

Please excuse any spelling mistakes my eyes don't appear to be working too well after my hair was dyed earlier.

Yup filling your lungs to the point of explosive decompression works for me as well :)

All the other ideas like sipping water etc all really do the same thing as holding your breath because they all get your brain to send commands to your diaphragm and so reset it.... can you tell I work in IT :(

drinking about a liter of water usually stops it

Right, now somebody find me a solution for when one of your ears is blocked from a pressure differential, or after sneezing, and swallowing doesn't clear it.

God damn thats annoying.

I get that too!

Put your index fingers behind and to the bottom of your ears, and push upwards and inwards. Open your mouth as wide as you can, then halfway back (you should feel something moving under your index fingers) and waggle your jaw from side to side.

...sounds daft but it works fer me :)

*disclaimer: I am not responsible for dislocated jaws

Or yawning sometimes helps.

OT: But when on planes I get really bad earache from the pressure change that goes all the way into the fron of my head. Then one day did the hold nose a blow thing and it completly sorts it. Never had pressure related aches again

I'm going to try the jawbone thing. I've tried everything else, the nose thing usually makes it worse unfortunately.
