The Merchants Guild would like to announce two things

1. Regular opening hours

Mag Mell in the house friday 7-8 Arrows the Merchant WILL be there many of you find it hard to contact me so if you wish to sell or buy anything then you can meet me there that day

2. Hibernian National Lottery

A new idea for all you hibbies who fancy a flutter ... will start this friday .... for 1g you will be given a specific number from a possible range then the following week the dice roll command will determine the winner winner takes the kitty
If no winner is found then the following week will be a rollover ...
to start with there will be 50 places no more than 5 tickets may be bought per person ..... the number range will be between 300 350.... 100 dice will be rolled number outside this range will be rerolled ... tell me what you think ....

rolling 100 dice is not a fair way of determining a random number - the distribution for rolling 100 dice is pretty damn close to a normal distribution, whereas to make the lottery "fair" you should attempt to get a uniform distribution

(basically u'll have much greater chance of winning if u pick 350 than if u pick 300)

rather do something like:
roll 1 dice 3 times and make people choose a combination of values from that roll (eg. 1,3,5 or 6,6,6 - erk!)

with 3 rolls of 1 dice u get a uniform distribution with a probability of 1/6^3 (roughly 0.5%) of 1 ordered combination being picked, with each ordered combination having the same probability

or just pick a number between 300 and 350

i KNEW that stats degree would come be useful someday!!!

or just use the random command and do /random 50 - tell everyone to pick a number between 1 and 50, no winner rolls over. That's uniform and a lot easier than pissing about with dice.

! ah that sounds much better .... i get what you mean about the first one .. i didnt know you could do random command that would be best .... i get what you mean about the uniform distribution .. i was aiming to get a range that started at the beginning of the main volume of the distribution and ended strangely enough at teh end .... that way there wouldnt be too many re-rolls ... but i like the random idea thatd work well ..

Friday the 22nd will be the first Hibernian National Lottery Draw
50 tickets available ... 5 have allready gone
The draw is open mainly to levs 40 - 50 cos tickets are priced at 50 g each
the winner takes 95 percent of total g .... there will be a 5 percent chance also that the will be no winner and that there will be a rollover for the next week....

when purchasing a ticket you will be given a number do not forget it .. i am taking down the numbers of all the peops so i know who you are and if youve paid

On the night 10 numbers 8 numbers will be randomly generated ... these 8 will be given numbers .... then the number one or two will be generated .. if 1 the odd numbered stay on if 2 the evenes stay on ... same again and finally only two left and it will be to see which of them gets the gold or should i say plat ! 50 peops 50 g each = 2.5 plat ... minus 5%admin fees = 2.375 platinum ! make sure you get your ticket now !
