Hi I need technical (and maybe psychological) help to connect to DAoC from work.
I work nightshift at a hotel, 3 hours of actual work and 5 hours on watching TV or browsing the internet. Therefore I wanna play DAoC from there

I have been trying all night. I brought my own PC to work, and I found out that I could only connect to www by using the proxy-server. So I looked at one of the firms PC and borrowed those settings to mine, and voila I could use the browser. But I still can't connect to DAoC, the IP adress for connecting to DAoC is 193.252.123.24

I do have access the firms server, but does not know how to operate it the software.
And I do have all the paswords etc I need, and yes my boss told me it was ok, if could figure out howto.

What should I do?

Help me Obi-wan you'e my only hope

how is the network providing internet to the workstations, via a proxy, or with ics?

The hotel probably connects via a router, I'm assuming its a thickband connection?

Get the IP of the router (or the server gateway) and specify it as the default gateway in TCP/IP settings.

Try a ping to wherever.

Keep in mind too that if the hotel uses firewall/IS , these have to be programmed to to allow your IP to receive data from the DAOC servers.

Sounds like they have port blocking on the firewall.

This will basically block any traffic which doesn't come via specific ports (ie http traffic, certain services like telnet, smtp, etc, etc.)

I would be suprised if they aren't, in which case you would need to speka to the systems administrator and get whatever port DAOC connects through opened for outgoing and inbound traffic.

I would have more info on specific ports, but I ahev yet to get round to building a firewall at home although I'm sure goa could pass you the information.

If your network connection does not allow you to get out on TCP ports 1280, 10500-10505 and 10622 the game client won't be able to connect to the servers. If there is a firewall in place the admin will have to add rulesets to authorize your connection to these ports.

What kind of proxy? The client isn't SOCKS compatible as far as I know, and there's no obvious way in the config files to change the ports and use port redirectors. It would probably work behind MS Proxy 2 with the windows proxy client installed, assuming that the user was authorized to go out on the appropriate TCP ports.

It works great with NAT - I just got a netgear NAT router for my cablemodem so I could connect my main game box and my laptop at the same time, no problems at all. :D
