Just wondered what your ideas would be on this subject.

Before Xmas I split with my Girlfriend after a long 10 years. I didn't want to split with her in the first place but i had no choice because she had a Drinking problem and I have tried to help her numerous times but no improvements were made. So, after a long thought I decided to split which was damn hard specially after 10 years of being together.

Its been almost 3 months now and we still speak to each other and that she still wants to be with me and her drinking problem has improved alot. But when ever she phones me up she ends up crying because she misses me and then I cannot understand what she is saying.

Im seeing her tonight about 7:30 UK time because she wants to talk to me about things and im under the impression that she wants it back to the way we had it (with no drinking ofc), so im going round her's at that time to see what she has to say to me. But im not 100% sure if I should see her again because I dont want to be in the same boat again. But on the other hand 10 years is a long time as we had lots of History together.

So basically just wanted some advice or suggestions.

Well...i'm just going to say what many think.

I find it a damn sucky thing to do, especially after 10 years, to leave because of a problem like that. Yes yes, "you don't know what it's like etc", i do, from personal experience and worse.

Ofcourse, you have that choice, but i would find it more then "hard" to leave someone just 'cause they have a drinking problem.

Now then, setting that opinion aside...are you willing to go through think and thin? Bad and good times? 'cause this problem WILL come back. If you love her, are willing to set aside your life at times and take care of her, help her in humanly impossible ways and beyond...then go, be happy with her and help her.

If on the other hand you think you'll bail out the minute some uglynes rears its head, then better for both to drop it and go separete ways.

Everybodt deserves a second chance I guess.. If she has stopped drinking or has improved alot, you should (IMO!) try to see how it would be like to be with her again, and see if you can have the same relationship that you had before the drinking problem started.

If she starts drinking heavily again, try talking to her parents or something and see if they can help out.. No matter the age, parents will always help you!

10 years straight out the window without a fight just isn't worth it imo..

Gl m8, I'll cross my fingers for you
