Ok saw the game is out in the retails now, and by the looks of the back of the box it looks very wow-alike. My first game in the series was Heroes 3, and it is one of my all-time favourite games. Heroes 2 was ok too, haven't tried Heroes 1 out yet and Heroes 4 was sort of a dissapointment.
Has anyone bought this game yet and are willing to share some experience? Which game in the series is this one most like? Ty.:)

I've played this a bit. It is more like Heroes 3 than Heroes 4 but suffers from a lack of maps, a random map generator and limited multi-player support.

Heroes 3 was also one of my facourite games of all time. Heroes 5 is an ok update but didn't hook me in the same way. It is much more campaign focussed and I disliked being forced to play towns/heroes I didn't like very much. But there were so few non-campaign maps that you didn't have much else to go on.

I d/l it also its average imo the campaign isnt all that interesting and items you find on one map dont carry on to the next not 100% sure but dont think other chars do either not sure as havn't played it for a while but remember thinking it sucked that stuff didnt continue.

I generally d/l games and if I like it go and buy it, I didnt buy this game take what you will from that ;)

i've been a life time fan of the HOMM series and have all of them :)

homm 5 is definitely much more like homm3 than 4 and goes back to hvaing the hero on the sidelines casting spells as opposed to having him on the field itself.

The hero skills are considerably more in depth now than in any of the previous games and the skill advancement tree is quite innovative.

Actual gameplay, as you would expect, continues in the same vein as all of the other games in the series

The graphics are very impressive for the type of game that it is, especially when you compare it to heroes4.

Multiplayer on t'internet i haven't tried yet due to it not letting me connect (an error quite a lot of people seem to be getting when looking on the forums) but at the moment from reading forums etc... multiplayer seems to be pretty bugged and theres a high percentage of games that dont finish.

I have played it hotseat against a friend and that was as fun as it always was.

For the single player campaigns, there are 6 campaigns, 1 for each race and you play them in order as all of the stories link in. Artifacts don't carry over from one mission to another, though that is understandable as there are a large amount of artifacts per mission anyway. Your heroes skills and attribute points do carry over from mission to mission, and when you are playing a different races mission, if you face a hero from a previous campaign then that hero is the hero you levelled up.

The cut scenes in between campaign missions are pretty lame, with them just using the combat models, so no lips move etc...

Overall I would probably rate the game at 8/10 its a nice upgrade from heroes 3 and if you liked heroes 3 then you will like this, but don't expect anything ground breaking.

Well appreciated guys, thanks alot and especially thanks to Serbitar for an awesome review :) I am convinced, will definately try this game out now, much to it as you said it was a bit like Heroes 3. Too bad my last piece of cash ran out due to renewing DAoC now, will have to wait a week or two.

Anywho, thanks again for superb comments :)

Such a bad man Lethul! those poor people who work on a game and you steal from them. They go bust, make no more games, eat beans and slowly starve... piracy supports terrorism! Bush will come for you next!

lol yeah as like the developers are rehired to make sequels etc if the game sells 0 copoies?

Also bigger community = bigger demand for patches = more work for developers etc etc etc.

On topic:

As said before V looks alot like III. That being said i still think its worth alot of hours of gameplay. Better graphix, new storylines lots of new tactics!

Well I have HoMM 5, so I'll give you a small review.

Gladly I opened the amazon chest, ripped away the plastic envelope and installed the game. So let's have some fun was what I thought when I waited for the game to start, but nothing happened. Well, a little look at some forums later I saw that others had the same problems. The problem was quickly solved by installing a crack.....for a game I bought legally in stores. Well well, now I started the game and looked at a black screen, so forums again. It said that I had to manually set VSYNC in my gfc opotions and fix the refresh rate of my monitor to 60Hz in the Direct Draw settings, wonderful.

So the game started and I played the first campaigns. The graphics were nice and I followed poor Lady Cathrine into her adventure to save the kingdom. So what can I say there, the campaigns are very nice and the story is awesome and you really feel with the heroes and their motives. The different towns are very good to play and all feel kinda different, also regarding the choice of heroes. Some are more offensive, some are casters and some just melee. If you played HoMM 3, it will feel very familiar, but with very nice changes. There are not only different skills, but every skill gives you 3 slots you can fill with talent. For example the well known "luck" skill: When gaining higher luck, you can also take special talents like Soldier's Luck, which will grant your creatures a higher chance to use their special abilities in combat.

Talking about combat. There is now an initiative system, which means that fast creatures strike more often than slow creatures, thus balancing some units. The initiative can of cause be influenced by spells and heroes. So we're talking about heroes now. Well they are nearly the same as in HoMM 3, but they can actually fight a bit on the battlefield aswell. Ranged heroes will fire missiles on enemy units, while melee heroes will enter the field for a short time to strike your enemies, but they can not be attacked in any form.

Generally the game is a lot of fun if you can cope with the fact that Nival did a crap job with the programming of some things and the absolutely crap copy protection.
