Hero help needed

Hi all,

Ive just rolled a hero on your fine server and was looking for some advice off any hight level spear heros (or any other type).

I really wanted to go large weaps at first but was put off by having to wait until level 10 to get it....

Anyway my endgame template is likely to ho one of a few ways - either full out 2 handed madness or shield/bash/spear...

The templates considered so far are:

Blunt 36 / 1 / 1
Shield 42 / 9 / 42
CS 50 / 44 / 50
Parry 16 / 36 / 39
LW 1 / 50 / 1

Despite my initial leaning towards LW - it looks like i will go for the blunt and board template (number 1) so that I get slam as well as getting bonuses against tin pots and chain wearers.

Is there any heros out there speccd the same and who would like to pass on advice...or anyone else for that matter.

BTW - Thanks once more to the guy who made me some armour for free - I wont mention his name in case he gets bombarded by other HIb n00bs.

The spear heros seem to do pretty well out there, i think Wuren is one, I know diabien is definitely one. Sotty i can offer no advice - I just wanted to say Good Luck

Well I can say this..

My spec is 50 LW 45 Spear 36 parry..

My reasons for this choice is as follows:

1. I only spread my skill points over 3 skills.
2. Apart from the highly touted 'slam' stun shields appear to be of little use in rvr, it is pretty rare for me to get blocked by a tank of the same level.
3. 1 handed weapons dont do a great amount of damage in rvr. Most of ur targets will be wearing chain or plate. Blades get a minus against both armour types. blunts do better, but are almost as slow as spears and LW.
4. Spears are imo the most effective melee weap against Midgard armour, u should hit yellow cons for 200-300 without style.
5. Spears aren't great against Alb Plate but a blunt LW rules.
6. I went to 50 LW over spear cos the LW last style is much better and we seem to fight Albs more than Mids.
7. 36 points in parry seemed a decent trade off against my lack of protection. I parry alot in PVE but atm RVR parry is broken for spear and LW, (gets fixed in next patch).

Disadvantages to this template are almost completely PVE orientated. The most popular way to xp atm is by pbae. As a completely 2H weapon user, u will find urself second place to shield heroes when grps are being formed alot of the time. Shield seems to be very effective in PVE and Shield Heroes are very popular in xp grps.

Any regrets to my template? Well I haven't decided yet. I'm a bit concerned at my spear skill. Today I was in melee with a lev 50 Troll. I switched from LW to spear and missed 3 swings in a row. Unlucky but not really acceptable. I will see how parry changes after the next patch b4 thinking about respeccing (trading some parry for more spear). In the mean time I will look for more +CS items.

Btw alot of my guildmates are shield heroes, and many are seriosly considering a repsecc with the next patch.

My lvl 50 template is 50 cs 42 shield 39 parry and blade up to taunt

with good items this end up with about:
50+ cs 46 shield 46 parry blade about 10 or something

verygood tmplate for pbaoe and rvr imo .

To-hit is only lvl-based, not skill-based - skill in a weapon-spec only affects your damage-variance. It might have been that the enemy was bubbled, and in that case you are pretty lost with that template, as you only have very slow weapons and wont land a single good hit against someone with a 6-sec-bt.

Farnis, just a tiny bit of info - the most wanted tanks in groups are shield heroes. High-shield spec and fast taunts (pierce works very well for this) to get agro, hold it, and soak the damage up - every group I'm in at the moment ends up sitting around for ages waiting for a good shield hero to be available

Well u are right on the spec points only effecting damage variance Harle my bad. I think the incident I reffered to where I missed 3 consecutive spear swings was a bit of a freak, and one of them was prolly bubbled.

I've been checking my damage output carefully over the last couple of days, avgerge hit against a yellow con tank is about 200-225 without style 350 with. Higher end LW styles oftern hitting for 400+.

LW's spears are slow but to suggest that u won't land a decent hit agains someone with a six sec bubble is a bit off the mark imo. Even a Firby on Prozac can swing a spear/LW more than once every six seconds.

The pace of rvr favours hard hitting weapons, battles are rarely 1v1. LW/Spear comes into it's own in rvr. I'd be interested to see which tanks accross all realms have accumilated the most rp. My money would be on 2H weap users being at the top of that tree.

Cadwyr i really hope ur talking about hitting a plate wearing alb tank unbuffed otherwise u have gimped ur char somehow.

About the Rp, atm i have 115 k or something.

Well..

The figures I posted previously were taken from this afternoons rvr. Blue buffs only from a lev 37 bard. And mostly from fights with Alb Armsmen as those where the guys I was having a harder time matching with a spear, my main reason for maxing LW. Im sure that u are hitting harder Wuren, that's the perks of being a Firby. I'm sure that the extra quickness/dex a Celtic Hero gets is a good enough trade off. I still landed several hits today in excess of 600 with crit (no procs) against yellow cons in chain.

To try to offer some kind of clarification to the original posters question, a single wield/shield template is prolly best for pve. However I'd say a template that includes LW/CS will be better from an rvr perspective. And wut will u be doing with ur time once u reach level 50?

Just one thing, if u hit ppl that wear chain with your spear for 200-225 without style and 350 with, then you prolly have gimped yourself. ppl that are lvl 50 and wear chain i hit mostly for over 450-500 dmg, just ask woody, paris, diadian from midgaard. Im sure they know how it tastes. thats with eagle talon btw, without styles i do about about 250-350 dmg on chain, the difference between lvl 50 chain/plate is about MAX 100 dmg + or -. And then i am overreacting, dont think i ever got (-100) when hitting someone with my spear.

Well as I said in the thread earlier these wer figures taken from fighting Armsman. Mat's damage output with a spear against Midgard chain is a lil higher, and My CS skill is 5 less with items atm. Eagle talon with an impaler, sure hurts those Middies

Btw how can I possibly be gimped in terms of damage? Spears suck against plate. An Alb LW armsman will own u most of the time 1v1 if ur fighting with a spear. Spear rocks Mids no question. The only way I have been able to match say Huma for damage tho is with LW. Gimped I don't think so

I heard diabien deleted his char out of group finding frustration. Dunno if its true tho.

If u actually read what i wrote, i said i really hope that that low dmg was when u where unbuffed and hitting plate tank. Guess we play the game different, tbh i dont see the reason to get high LW just for bonus vs plate, next enemy will just wear chain or whatever. If i go up against albs i just switch to faster spear.

i'd have to say the best hero temp is the hybrid hero haveing both one-hand weapon shield and either LW or CS and parry

wont go into specs but these are imo the best

reason is mainly your grouped and u usually got a bard now the bard usually mezzes ppl so what u can do is slam em with a small shield the use your LW or CS and get 2 free hits they cant hit back they cant move and usually u in a group so you can wipe out the enemy using this tactic area efect mezz and kill em one at a time and they cant do fuck all about it
