Heres a weird one

Short while ago I posted about having trouble with Q3 jerking on certain servers...

Over the last few days I've rebuilt/reinstalled everything (general clean out). For some reason (its happened before) the Asuscom ISDN card wasn't being detected, so I shifted it down 1 pci slot.

Next reboot it was detected fine, drivers installed etc.

Then tried playing Q3. No matter what server I went to, I suffered the weird jerking effect. This was with fps knocking 100-120.

After trying the usual stuff (deleting q3 cfgs, swapping back to old video drivers etc) I moved the ISDN card back to its old slot. This time it detected and installed fine.

Back to Q3 and the jerking had gone completely.

Most odd, just thought I'd share it :)

It's called an IRQ conflict :) The TA would have been sharing an IRQ with another device which I'd guess woz the video card hence you got your jerking effect.

Good theory eh? :D

Actually it sounds very familiar to a problem I had with my ASUS PCI TA. I used to have an internal modem, which sat alongside everything just fine on a cold boot. No IRQ conflicts, all devices working. Give the PC a warm reboot however and the ASUS would show as conflicting! Consequently I had to cold boot to make sure I had ISDN l33tness. I've since removed the modem, and warm booting is fine now.

Like Coma I thought I'd share that with you. We like sharing in Clan Dr, needles in particular.

I've had this too.

I used to get weird fps swings...like between 15 and 100. Ping was steady.

Turns out I had my video bios shadowing enabled, which is a no-no for modern video cards.

Disabled that, and not had it since.
