Can anyone out there tell me what happens with the svartald armourer near the stone in Myrkwood? I have delivered the Arachite carapace but nothing seems to happen?

This one and a few others like the Kobold Hunter near Audlithen are faction NPCs. By doing the quests you get better faction with some kinda mob.

Yep, they're faction quests to help you gain favour with one NPC group at the expense of the others. There are three factions which work against each other: Svartalf, Werewolf and Arachite.

You can repeat these quests multiple times I believe.
