*crys* Frantically... been about 3 weeks since my main computer worked for those of you who need a recap the previous thread is available here:

Ok I sent my ram chip back to scan... they arsed around for ages yada yada.... anyway I just got a new 256 PC2700 DDR Chip from crucial....

Plugged it in... wiped the CMOS.... turned on WHOOPIE me thinks... got into the bios screen.. it seemed ok until I set it back to optimum performance level... i.e. the proper speed of my CPU..... the screen locked a few seconds later.. oh well I thought... drained the CMOS again... expected it to work... nothing... the same beeping as before :(

1 beep every few seconds... in case you didn't read the other thread my specs are:

Abit KX7-333 no raid
AMD Athlon XP 2000
256 PC2700 DDR
128mb Abit Siluro GF4 TI4200

running off the 350watt PSU that came with the case... made by scan

I'm guessing either my mobo or CPU is b0rked... more likely my MOBO.... any ideas? :(

Don't set it to optimal. Thats lazy BIOS tweaking, and I don't think I've ever got it to work. Just turn up the CPU on its own. Then do the RAM. Then do any other tweaks.

Optimal settings tend to be a bit hopeful.

How are you using the CMOS reset thingie jumper?

remove from the end 2 pins... stick on the other end.. leave a few seconds.... replace... power on... sound right ?

Press the power button while it is on the reset jumpers, for about 2 seconds.

tryed in first and second slot... tis a real bitch this... I'm thinking my mobo must be fucked....

I really wish I had some other parts I could check my CPU with as I guess that's the only other part that would stop it booting all together..... I've tryed a diff GFX b4 no cigar!

yep :( Think i'm gonna send the mobo back....


can anyone recommend a good retailer to buy it off... I don't want to wait weeks for scan to test it etc!

it's less less than 2months old... still under guarentee so they have to provide me with a refund if I request... :) [I think]
