Help with jumps in dm13

I've just recently started playing 1v1 online, after playing ctf exclusively since Q3 came out. And damn my dm sucks now. :) So I've d/ld a few demos to watch for pointers, but can't replicate a couple of the jumps I've seen on DM13.

The first is onto the megahealth by the yellow armour. I've watched a demo of some guy doing it and he just seemed to jump into it normally, but I can't get there without rocket assistance. :)

And also, on the top level of the main area, to jump from the yellow armour stairs over to the other platform, instead of following it round to get the RL, I can't manage this one either.

Any tips/advice much appreciated!

1.) This jump is FPS dependant, and won't work unless you are using the qvm system (ie. haven't installed speed .dll's). You need to set your com_maxfps to a higher value than usual (125 works fine for me). You also need a computer capable of generating these high FPS counts, but it "seems" to be a little more forgiving when done on non-local-listen servers, therefore go try it on the net if it doesn't work for you first time.

2.) Hug the left of the stairs, when you hit the top of the steps, strafe right and jump, and repeat that again when you land on the small block.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware some jumps were FPS dependant, guess I need to try and max my frame rate some. Is there any pages I can find out some info about this 'feature' of Q3? Seems a bit wierd that the physics model would be linked to the graphics engine, no?

the fps jump is stupidly odd.

I set my fps max @ 85, and offline was able to do it, same conditions (bar lag) online, and I couldn't, its really quite annoying (incidently, I have the speed dll's installed, and don't generate near 85 fps) to know I can't do a jump because of my computer (its one thing being envious of the LPbs as an HPb, but being envious of their ability to jump better than me because of their maxfps is just stupid)

You may also find that com_maxfps of 40 will work ok for that jump. It works in incremental steps that work. I'd also not necessarily assume that because it doesnt work offline that it won't work online, test it online on a server at 40fps or 80fps.

Thanks, managed to get the jump working after some fannying with settings.

Got my FPS up well high, running a Hercules 3d Prophet 2 64mb card, then with com_maxfps set to 80 I can get up there - very jerky looking though.

I've read the linked pages, and still don't 100% understand the reason why, but at least it works now. Cheers. :)
