hey guys,

just needed a little help.

i am within the next week or 2 gonna get a new machine set up.

decided to go for a:

AthlonXP 1800+
512 DDRam
80 Gig Maxtor
and all the other crap that goes with it.

but was wondering what gfx card to get was thinking of going for a 64Mb XFX Geforce 4 TI4200 which i saw in cclcomputers.

was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this card and could give me a little feed back on it performance wise.

i mostly play RTCW so what sort of FPS could i expect with this card and any other useful info on it..

thanks in advance

I'd say you'd get 70 fps + @1024x768

Geforce 4 ti4400 because 4600 is quite a margin of price difference between the 4400 and 4600 when the 4400 can be just as good if u overclock.Besides the 4600 aint worth the extra money too even though its the best card its not by hardly that much.

True...then again I can overclock my 4600.

I'd say go for the ti4200 if thats what your budget permits and ignore mat as he's just regurgitating what he's read in a ti4400 review and seems to forget that ti4200 and ti4600 can be overclocked too :)

Ti4200 seems to be the card giving 'the most bang for your buck'.

I looked at the XFX model and was a bit surprised that there is no fan on the gpu, just a big heat sink. I know how hot my 4400 gets and if your case has poor airflow that could be a potential problem.

Would make overclocking more difficult anyway.

*EDIT* Was looking at the wrong card, it does have a fan. Looks good :)

What about the GF4 MX440 jobbies? Are they any good? Reason I ask is that I'm on a serious budget (ie: £90 and under if you please) and I'm sick of playing CS at 20 fps :p

Staz buy a GF3 ti 200 I used to have one and they're very good. To refer to our previous conversation I dont think they come in 128m just 64, i think only the GF4's have that. Never mind, its still a very good vid card well worth the money. I bet for playing cs theres not much difference between that and mine :)

OK, GF 3 Ti200 it is.

Do I get the 128 meg version or is that a bloody stupid question.

Get the 128 MB if you fancy those new direct 8 - unreal engined games that aren't out yet like C&C Generals, Doom III, Colin Mcrae 3 etc,

but if you just want to play your current games faster get the 64MB. :)
