Hey, was wondering if anyoen coudl help I'm sure a lot fo you have experience with systems like this.

Basically I have a Ministry Of Sound cinema surround system and got it hooked up to my Playstation and DVD player absolutely fine, red and white cables plug straight into the surround system, yellow into the tv for the playstation, and the DVD is straight forward with an optical cable leading straight form the dvd player again into the surround system. Both work fine.
However I've not been able to hook up the TV to get sound through the system, the only output point is the same one through which I plug the yellow cable for the PS2, leading red and white from those sockets on the TV into the surround system but nothign happens, I'm guessing these ports are one way into the TV only? Manual doesn't specify if they are outoging ports or incoming, but I used to plug all 3 red white and yellow into those sockets for the PS2 before I had this sound system.

Any suggestions?
Spose I should link to the TV and surround system I have yea? Unless there is somethign blindingly obvious I'm missing out on....

Cheers :)

if you can, upload some photos of all the ports on tv. might be easier than trying to describe it.

the way it works for me is i got a home cinema control amp, which takes scart leads in it. so my audio from the tv goes out the scart lead to the amp. the tv also takes sound through it aswell.

i think usually phonos (red and white ones) on a tv only take sound in.

righty

nothign special at the back of the TV, 2 SCART sockets and an RF socket.
ariel (sp? isnt that the mermaid??) from wall goes into VCR, then out of VCR into tRF into TV. DVD has SCART straight into TV, digibox has SCART straight into TV aswell.

and now

the only other part of the TV with things on it, from left to right we have:
volume up/down, channel up/down, power on/off, red/white/yellow ports (only use the yellow one here, thats the PS2, red and white from PS2 go directly into the speaker system), lastly headphone socket.

Nothing on the front of the TV at all, no panel that slides or flips open, that stuff is on the side of the TV itself as shown in pic 2 above.

so anyoen got funky ideas to get sound form the TV through the speakers? maybe routing sound from the digibox through the speaker system? But the SCART lead form the digibox isnt split into 3 wires :(

i used to be so good with A/V stuff now i feel like a complete tool

I won't go into this...since my head popped when i hooked my ps2, digibox, vcr, dvd surround and tv together...

Well, the ps 2 part was easy since it went straight into an AV slot in the side.

But the others? It's a round-a-rama. But it works.

Only problem is that i have to move one day, and i'd hate to wrap my livingroom area just to avoid another wire hazzle :p

But basicly the wiring goes: Antenna socket-->digibox-->TV-->surround-->VCR-->TV...or was it...err...

just had a brainstorm lats night though, could i not get the sound from the digibox into the speaker system like i do with my ps2? ie, red and white into system, yellow into TV, as simple as that?

Your tv will be stereo and won't have an output for surround sound, the best you will get is kinda faked surround sound from the box at best. Thats what he means by being 2 channel - just stereo. Some smaller TV's as well are actually only mono.

As for wiring it all up, sometimes its just a case of trial and error - without standing there prodding it myself I wouldnt like to guess - tho don't lick your finger and stick it in a socket - thats the best advice I can give!

oh yea the TV itself has a 'virtual' surroudn which is quite pants, but surely i can get sound form the digibox into the surorudn system, ignoring the tv for sound altogether?

You could but virtual surround is usually something even as daft as the speakers pointing slightly ******ds not directly forwards from the screen - the sound then is supposed to reflect off the walls and re-appear behind you etc to give the effect of surround. probably is stereo then if it has that option. Try running a scart from the TV to the Surround Box and see if that works - may end up needing a scart splitter or something for evrything else tbh. (in work so not got time to browse teh pics etc in details) If the surround thingy you have has Dolby Pro 2 it should give a better surround effect than Dolby Pro I think as well.

ill try that, but im pretty sure the tv doesnt have dolby properly, only virtual stuff.
but the digibox i have form NTL, think that maybe has dolby on it? not sure shoudl check myself :p

but at teh end of the day even if i cant get dolby via the tv id like stereo from it, pumping through my speaker system

wahst that black plug right at the end in the corner of the tv?

if its the headphones one you can take a lead from that to the line in/mic socket on your stereo.
It wont be surround but will be stereo.

If you simply want sound on your PS2 then instead of plugging the red and white cables into the tv, you plug them into your stereo

if you just want to connect the ntl digibox to your hi-fi then just use the RF Out port on the digibox and connect it to the stereo if i remember correctly
