All you need is :-
2 net cards (ISA or PCI)
TCP/IP installed or IPX/SPX?
a piece of BNC cable or RJ45 crossover cable depending on your net cards(or an 8 port mini hub if you want more than 2 PC's on RJ45 connections)
One PC to start a server the rest to join.
I used to run Q1 over a serial cable running IPX/SPX protocol, does Q2 work like this also ? anyone ?

thanks will have to go with isa slots as 1 pc has no pci spare. are they slower, more expensive, harder to get hold of?
again cheers

ISA cards sometimes dont install that well (as they are not fully PnP) but im using an ISA NIC in one of my PCs at the moment and its working fine.

If you are using rj45 (10Base-T) to connect two PCs together you'll probably need a UTP cable wired as a crossover cable (connections are reversed). The xover is usually done inside the hub ports when your using a star topology.

I second that, although if you're planning to link up more than two pc's you're best off getting a hub and non-crossed over rj45 cabling (you'll need two sets, one for each pc). I had to re-wire my cable (thx FM!

)and buy some more once we got more than two pc's connected on the lan. Believe me, it might cost more, but it'll be worth it in the long run when you get your 64-player lan matches going

Or alternatively :
get a 4 quid laplink cable (make or buy) and use direct cable connection.
