Disconnect any network connections till XP has finished doing its thang, then reconnect it after. Had this on a PC before and I beleive it was trying to negotiate an IP address or something daft. Worth a shot anyway.

Well you can try and recover windows via the disc on the startup,

If you havent got to the logon screen / start button - then you will probably need to reinstall, its almost certainly a driver issue, id go for the basic of settings to get it installed again.

If you have previously logged on or seen the start button then when you reboot hold down F8 and choose "Last Known Configuration" from the menu provided.

Boot into safe mode with command prompt and see what file it hangs on (might be mup.sys) just google the name of the file and try some of the fixes.

If you're trying to reinstall windows i guess you have the installation disk in? Did you change the settings to boot from the CD not from the HD?

Had to reinstall windows twice before and it's a royal pain. GL.

As long as you're formatting the drive totally, the best idea to is boot from the XP disk and delete the partition. Then reset the partition and do a format (not quick). All the instructions are laid out on sceen when you boot from the XP disk for this.

Had a similar problem when a m8 got hold of a Dell copy of XP, turns out Dell must use some special drivers on the disk that only work on their systems, so make sure you have a non branded copy.

I suggested in an earlier post that you boot in safe mode with command prompt (although im not 100% that u can boot safe mode with command prompt at this point in the install) Anyway if you can you will be able to see where it is failing and therfore have a better idea as to why.
