Hi

Anyone who has read the technical help section of this forum will know of the horrendous problems I have been facing recently.

I believe that the issue is not one with the hardware in my system but with an incompatibility between something IN my system and the Mythis/Goa gfx engine...causing my game to crash with a screen full of vertical coloured lines, usually within seconds of entering.

Just for the record:

Windows XP
AMD Athlon 1.8
nVidia gForce 2 Ti 64
256 Ram
Soundblaster Audigy
Cable connection

I have uninstalled and reinstalled every driver, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have cleaned my machine thoroughly. I have run Benchmark tests on every possible piece of equipment I can and all gets 100% or close to. The only thing left is (as Usp suggested) to reinstall my operating system and start my driver profile from scratch. I really dont want to have to do this.

So really, what with the connection problems Ive been having, unable to get past the log in screen and now this problem (which incidentally wasnt present before patch 1.48) Im a little fed up.

So fed up in fact that I think what with the still present host of in game bugs/problems/imbalances and a myriad of other technical and game play issues that unless the techies at RightNow can come up with a miracle cure to this problem... I will not be renewing my account at the end of this period.

Simply: I do not see why I should be paying for a game I cannot play.

If you see me in game it means its all been fixed, however Im not holding my breath.

So, goodbye for now, mostly Ive had fun, recently its been a nightmare...dont need nightmares just want to have the fun bit, so I go play something else while this gets sorted.

Take care all

Usp: /kiss (thank you for all your help and support)

Noita as the most extreme measure you CAN <only can if you like> Choose Windows ME over XP <maybe its some incapatability between your opo system. Think about it if you have nothing to loose then "Back up" and "Format". I am not a techie but imho XP isnt really good enough yet.

So "obtain" a ME <millenium edition> disk , back up the information you want to keep, format the drive, install WIN98 upgrade to ME, then the driver upgrades and you are set.

I have this :

Windows ME
1,8 AMD
256 RAM
Kyro 4500 <64 meg> [ok its not the same as GF but still]

If you have spare time <about 3-4 hours> and desperate enough to do that.........

But its only a drastic measure. :)

Well at least it does work on my system and gives tips and suggestions if something goes wrong. Whereas all XP did for me when i had it was " Would you like to report that error via internet ? " .

Oh well or you could go back to '98.

Well i have had no problems with mine maybe because my pc was built by 2 senior pc engineers who know their stuff and its fairly new also very very powerful.I got 3000-4000 more 3d mark so windows xp is well worth it for games if you can make it run its full potential and realise the quality it produces.

Noita i will read your problem when i come back from work and see if i can solve it for you.

I would definitely recommend *against* WinME, as it's quite possibly the biggest bag of shit I know of..

Hmm AMD.. I take it the Motherboard has a VIA chipset? *sucks air in through teeth*

I have recently rid myself of the horrors of AMD/VIA *strokes 2.4 p4*, alas I do not want to turn this thread into an x vs y debate:p

Anyway.. if you do have a VIA chipset mobo, are you sure you're using the latest 4in1 drivers? Have you tried different versions of your gfx card drivers?

Strange as it sounds, on my old dual 933, I had an issue where 3dmark 200x wouldn't function unless I changed how much system RAM the card would use for textures, I can't remember the exact option - I'll check when I get home.

Have you tried disabling AGP4X? DirectX texture acceleration?

*looks at other thread you mentioned*

Try downloading and running something like 3D Mark, see if your system can get through the whole thing without dying..

oh dear matty u disillusioned maniac, stick with the P4, it is hands down superior to anything AMD have or are throwing out.

If I wasnt saving for more important things, I would swap my Athlon XP 1700+ for a P4 2.2a Northwood CPU in a flash

Solid an amd athlon 2700 mhz proccesor is as fast as a p4 3.5ghz i have seen it tested and beleive me its a lot better then the previous ones,p4 is just like buying a ferrari whereas an amd is a porsche you paying for the name thinking its best when it isnt:)

Also my current specs are:

Athlon xp 1800mhz
Geforce 4 ti 4400 128 ddr ram
1024 ddr ram
80gb hardrive
windows xp pro
soundblaster live 5.1

I have got 11000 or so 3d mark with these specs so you can't say amd aren't good can you:D

How can you compare ferrari and porche .... :m00: ...its like comparing quality of a table with that of a chair....:p

Well you seem to know fuck all about AMDs/Intels, and Ferraris/Porsches. So stop comparing them.

But not Ferrari with Porsche mate.... obviously you know more about the techie stuff i never claimed im da man to ask in that department :) But saying that Porsche is better than ferrari.....Porsche = max constructor capability class GT
Ferrari = max constructor capability F1

Newest Porsche 911 GT2 0-100 5,5 seconds $180K
Latest Ferrari 360 Modena 0-100 under 5,5 secs $150K

Imho Porsche and Ferrari should never be compared as they belong to two different classes of vehicles :)

Ivan it was just example of the price difference most ferrari's cost more then porsches thats all:p

What a useful reply. Show me these amazing benchmarks of chips that don't even exist being compared to each other then.

(And if you post the URL to some nitro-cooled mockery I'll just laugh my ass off)

Even if you look on the mad onion site you can see the differences between them oh well stop this shit please, you like p4 and i like amd thats how its been with everyone just answer this guy's post as ivan said lets get back to topic.
I will have the benchmark of it soon and when i do it will be here.

It worked before, didn't it? Did you do anything special? Try updating the BIOS, can help against many weird problems. Try changing resolution and things in game (if you get that far). *ponder* that's about all I can think of you could try :/

Edit: saw that you hadn't reinstalled the OS yet, maybe you should try restoring the register to a previous date when you know it worked? Shrug, could work.

yeah, those creeping benchmarks dont help at all.

what is your motherboard? do you have update your via chipset drivers? or did you update them lately? maybe newest driver dont work perfectly, instead you must use older.

what you did just before this graf bug start in your computer?
any updates?

i have these bugs too and must admit they start after i install newest nvidia referense drivers, whit older, any problems!.

even they say use allways newest drivers, game instead is allready allmost year old, so i am sure these new drivers are not allways the best solution for problems.

give feedback Noita so try solve this problem.

Backup everything from your O/S install that you need. Make sure you've downloaded:

1) graphics card drivers (I'd get "last known good" ones, rather than latest)
2) mobo drivers (any inf update utilities, 4in1, etc)
3) Service Packs

Nuke your O/S. Reinstall either 2K or XP (if you prefer, although I hate it)

In order, you want to install -
- your operating system
- any Service Packs (SP1 for XP? Or SP 1/2/3 for 2K)
- your motherboard utilities
- your graphics card drivers
- everything else

It's quite possible that your o/s install is just on its way out, or that you've installed a dodgy set of Dets that DAOC doesn't like. Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to get rid of all the artifacts from dodgy drivers, so you're better off just starting again.

Hi and thanks :)

Well yes I have a Via motherboard and yes I downloaded the latest 4-1 drivers... but...this was in an attempt to solve the problem that had arisen post patch 1.48 (possibly a coincidence but cant remember the problem being there prior to 1.48)

BIOS... umm look Im really not technically competent, I should wear L plates :) Whats a BIOS? How would I know if its wrong? If its wrong how would I fix it? See... I know nothiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!

I had a e mail from RightNow... they said to try changing my AGP port speed....ummm? :(

See UltraTechnoBimbo.

Thanks for your help tho :) I let you know if microsoft can help, Im calling them soon.

what to say?
dont try self upgrade bios, its risky :) need to know what do and when.

agp port speed you can change from bios, there you get when start machine and press del when down, left corner say so.
but befaure go change agp settings, read that small leather where is all about motherboard, come whit motherboars.

well, most pages other have suggest to you get help is foreign sites, in Finland we indeed have one too :) and good one!
www.muropaketti.com and the forum http://www.muropaketti.com/murobbs/ , but dont remember how good you was in this world 2nd difficult languish ( to me its english!)

You can change AGP port speed from BIOS, you get there when the machine starts working <usually going through RAM memory cap at this point so you have plenty of time to press the button> and press DEL , like it says in the left corner.
But before you attempt that, try changing AGP settings, read that small booklet that came with your motherboard.

You could try tweaking the BIOS a bit, but I wouldn't recommend changing anything in it unless you are both confident with changing BIOS settings and also know what each one does.

As Tuppe has said, you could check your motherboard manual and have a read through the BIOS section.

But I doubt it will make much of a difference.

To change the settings, the process differs slightly depending on what BIOS your motherboard uses, but the method to access the BIOS setup is similar for most types (As Tuppe has said, press Delete on the POST screen, where the computer displays the Processor type and checks memory and hard drives etc).

Once into the BIOS you want to look for AGP related settings (on AWARD BIOS, for example, they are all located in Advanced Chipset Features).

What you want to do is set the AGP Aperature Size to 64 (that is default anyway), AGP Fast Write to Disabled, set AGP Mode to 2x.

Then see if this might help.

But, as I said, doubtful since you aren't experiencing any problems with any other software and there is alot of people running default setting with DAoC and similar hardware setup...

As regards to the WindowsMe vs WindowsXP discussion...

IGNORE WindowsMe.

It is a non-completed rewrite of the 9x code with a bit of the 2k interface stuck into it. It is buggy as hell, has ZERO tolerance with new hardware, and is supported by less people than there is Manchester United supporters in Manchester.

WindowsMe is not fully compatible with alot of software that 9x/NT/2k/XP is, and is a bitch to configure right.

Seriously, anyone using WindowsMe, either go back to 98SE if you absolutely need a 9x kernel, or upgrade to 2k, or even XP.

Please, don't torture your PC with WindowsMe, it's not fair on it :)
