Help on Quake

When I have been playing Quake, i have notice other player have been using an techinque which involes going forward and firing. It makes you difficult to hit.
I am wondering how u do this.

(Ps I do not think this is circle strafing, i already know how to do this.)

I think if you hold down the key that is bound to +attack and the key that is bound to +foward at the same time, this will produce the effect you are looking for.

Also, this can work in the same way if you hold down the key bound to +back and the key bound to +attack at the same time. This might take a while to grasp as you cant see where you are going. Usually only experienced players will dare to attempt this.

I have heard that it also possible to change your weapon. I have been using the default weapon and have found that many player have an advantage over me when they use rockets. Maybe someone can help me with this . . . dont worry by the way, I too stand still every time I shoot.

I tied that and my computer shut down you fool. I had just managed to find the rocket launcher aswell. You have ruined my life.

And which key is it?

Maybe by having these keys bound. It might improve my gameplay?

Any other key combinations i should try?
I think i saw someone moving sideways. Im not sure tho cos my gfx were turned up to the full and i wasnt really playing quake3 i was watching a picture show - with the pictures changing at 5 second intervals.
