I had same problem, the way i got around it was to reboot computer with windows cd in, and as it loads it asks if you wish to load from the cd, press any key. THen as someone said, you can go through there and format it.

If it´s the boot partition of your hd, you need to "delete partition" first, then format it.

yes obviously you can't format your windows partition while in windows. There's bootdisks to start pc in dos, then you could do format c:\ or, as said, use the windows xp cd.

1) Download the lastest service pack and put it on a cd/zip disk
2) Insert the windows xp setup cd into drive
3) When the post test (when it checks ram etc) comes up press the key it says to enter the BIOS
4) Set the first boot device to cd rom, it will be in there somewhere just need to look around a bit :) varies from bios to bios
5) save changes and reboot
6) setup will now boot from the cd
7) go through setup, its step by step and fairly simple. If in doubt select typical settings ;)
8) Make sure network cable is out/modem not connected to the phone line
9) Last check network/modem cable isnt connected
10) After couple reboots install the latest service pack from youre cd
11) Install a virus guard
12) Install a firewall
13) Reconnect cable to have internet access
14) Sit happily with a cup of coco wondering how much you pwn cus of youre achievement :)
