Hi,

I know I am going to get allsorts of answers here, but I really need some help with picking a character.

I am trying to find the illusive good character to play on either hib or alb within Excalibur.

If you have played many of the character types then let me know what you think of each of them - ability to solo, usefulness in a group, rvr, pvp etc. I know its pretty objective, but what the hell.

I usally like to play something a bit different to everyone else...im even open to casters - although ive been pretty soured against them since playing a sorc on Alb...

PS I love lurikeens....

Just the characters I've played:

Ranger - Damm good in RvR, seconded only to assassins perhaps. You'll spend a lot of time LFG, but we're prolly the best soloers in Hibbie - oranges and the odd red are do-able. Oh, and lurikeens make the best archers :D

Hero - The best tank class hibbie has, think a lot of tanks get upset in RvR due to excessive stun/mezing tho :). Should never have trouble finding a group in PvE.

Eldritch - Void gets some very high dmg bolts and nukes, Mana gets some nice AoE and stun stuff (I think), not sure about Light. Mana eldritch's are gonna be in demand soon with the recent PBAoE group craze

my experience

Bard
pros : fantastic with groups, easy to get groups, speed rocks to get around places, playing my alts drives me mad going anywhere. If you are a helpfull, patient person and like to group this is an excellent class.
cons : we get smacked down by everything(got a hiding from a green recently), we are targets for stealthers.

Void eld
pros : great to solo, nice spells to watch, great satisfaction blowing holes through heads.
cons : stealth target, no hps, no armour, harder to get groups.

;) you can see I love the bard ...

I'll just add the Enchanter to this list:

Enchanter: Great for soloing, very quick leveling (all because of the underhill pet), can have some trouble finding groups but it also has the PBAoE spells in the mana spec line. You get powerful dmg spells in the light spec line, these are great for helping the underhill.

Play a shadowblade on midgard if u want to have maximum fun in rvr, and be called overpowered. If you really have to play in hibernia play a Nightshade, you will have loads of fun in rvr too, just that a SB owns the ns easily. anyways, this game is based on stealthers. so anything with stealth.

Aye, my 2 cents. Important. If your building a character for RVR answer this question. a) Do I want to RVR solo. b) Or RVR group

If anwser = a) Then character = Shade or Ranger.
(there are too many Rangers so go shade ((lurikeen)))

---------------------------
Ok now B)

Essential Characters in RVR group are as follows...

NUKERs
TANKs
DRUIDs
BARDs

Best Nuker is Eldritch. Edritch are a bit dull to play I found..... Not that many spells, and very fragile.. But theres is no doubt they dish out some serious damage.

Tanks, you need em in your group. But personally, dont play one unless the idea of toe to toe gets you going... They are the most limited class in the game....

Druids, again these are essential in the group, but I would argue a bit dull.. to play... Play the druid class if you lov the idea of monitoring peoples health for hours on end and healing them...or buffing them or curing them or ressing them etc etc

Bards, I recommend playing one of these... I think they are good. Definetly the back bone of any group... You can heal. Do damage with shouts. Tank a bit if you like.. Mezz (which is an RVR essential) and play songs which benefit your group....
The classic bard a jack of all trades and a master of none.....

Another good class thats underplayed is the mentalist.

Basically the mentalist can do a bit of everything..... MINI nukes, para, Heals, buffs, health regens etc etc.....

So my opinion I would recommend

SHADE if you wanna solo

MENTALIST or BARD if you wanna group up.

Please dont flame its just my opinion...
I am not trying to diss any class, If you enjoy playing a tank or druid, then thats cool..

Warden: This class is great in groups, not that good solo until later levels. U can tank / heal / buff / pull. :)

I have no problem on getting groups, esp. after lvl35. I also feel that i contribute alot in RvR with my bubble's, it keeps the caster alive ;) I even kill some myself  .
