Hi,

Need some graphics card advice please.

I have an Athlon 500 machine (128Meg RAM)
with very aging TNT2 Ultra card. I want to keep
this machine for another 6 months before upgrading.

I play mostly FPS games. Medal of Honour runs
like a 3-legged dog on tranquilizers and has forced
me to consider an upgrade.

I was looking at buying a GeForce2 Ti (Sparkle)
at around £90 but I want to know if my CPU can push
this card fast enough to make it worthwhile.
Would I be better off with just a Geforce2 MX400 ?

I also have just seen GeForce 4MX (MSI) card for around £92.
Is this just a waste of time with my CPU ?
(I know I won't get the latest GeForce4 features, I've read
the reviews but if it churns out a better framrate on my
existing games it may be worth it ?)

Also, I'm sorry I'm not sure what my motherboard is but I've
seen some discussion about incompatability with some
cards vs some motherboards vs some games ?

Guidance appreciated.

Cheers.

go for the geforce 4mx 440 at a minumum, it's got twice the frame buffer and is vastly superior to Geforce2

bear in mind though that it doesn't have many of the Geforce3/Geforce4Ti features... you'll finally have TnL but that's about it.

once you've got a nice shiny new MSI mx look at upgrading that motherboard + cpu - long in the tooth is a bit of an understatement!

Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, I'm half torn between a new card and putting the money toward a new basic system but money is tight at the moment and likely to remain so for a while.

Cheers.
